Democrats Think You’re Too Stupid To Figure Out Which Cars To Drive

The Dems’ big push on gas prices is being spearheaded by this “Americans deserve more efficient vehicles” nonsense:

Democrats: Motorists deserve more fuel efficient cars
WASHINGTON (CNN) β€” A Democratic senator said a new energy plan backed by both Democrats and Republicans is sorely needed in the United States, where motorists face a summer of dramatic hikes in gas prices.
β€œAll it takes is one trip to the gas station to know Americans face an energy crisis,” said Maria Cantwell of Washington state in the weekly Democratic radio address.

You know what the problem with this is? When given a choice, Americans are overwhelmingly choosing the luxury and convenience of less fuel efficient vehicles over the fuel savings of more efficient vehicles like hybrids. And as for America being in a fuel crisis? It’s not much of a crisis when Americans are actually driving more during these times of high gas prices rather than less.
So what’s with the Democrats using their own conjured up “fuel crisis” as an excuse to tell us what cars we can drive? It’s all about control, as liberals love to put the government in charge of as much of our lives as possible, and pandering to the environmentalist base.
Ultimately, our energy situation would be helped a great deal more by the government being less involved in energy than more. But that won’t stop people like Senator Cantwell from essentially arguing to nationalize the energy industry (something Hillary Clinton has talked about as well):

Cantwell, who decried American dependence on foreign oil, supports a more centralized energy plan that would reduce the cost of fuel. Such a plan, she believes, would preserve thousands of U.S. jobs and support small businesses hurt by rising fuel costs.

Reducing the cost of energy through central control of the energy industry. Sounds decidedly…Marxist.

Ace25. Simple math. Actually, the real cost of gasoline is less today than it was in 1975 adjusted for inflation. Tim. True indeed. Whenever you change the form of energy you loose energy. Simple Physics from Jr. High School.
Hybrid cars use energy generated from electric plants.

I’m not an expert but take a look at the chart at the bottom of this page: http://www.eia.doe.gov/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/wrgp/mogas_home_page.html

In Feb of 2005 it shows gas prices at about $1.90 in Sept of 2005 we see a peek of over $3.00 then back down and up it swings.

People that bought a suv in Feb of 2005 were in for a rude awakening 7 months later when they were paying almost 60% more for a gallon of gas.

bottom line is, we want our SUV’s, Auto Mfg’s give us what we want and then we complain at the uncontrollable pump prices.

I don’t’ think it takes a brain surgeon to tell you that less than $2.00 / gallon days are pretty much over. We need to stop buying the gas guzzlers, or stop whining at the pump.

Couldn't of wrote it out a better way myself. Just another way for the democrats to push their "fuel crisis" on us. The funny thing is, some of these hybrids use more energy to make than a standard car that the savings in gas is offset.

We had a good replacement for her in Mike McGavick, but as usual, King County threw everything off.

What would those calculations be professor?

Cantwell, who decried American dependence on foreign oil, supports a more centralized energy plan that would reduce the cost of fuel.

Is she stupid or what? There are two huge, glaring idiocies in that statement. First, planned economies and price controls have never resulted in lower prices. And if for some strange reason, Ms. Cantwell's centralized energy plan were able to reduces fuel prices the thing she wants to happen the most, lowered fuel consumption, could never happen. Even a failed economics student could tell you that lowered prices increase consumption.

kbiel, Basic, Supply and Demand, now there is a novel idea… I'm not sure some of our politicians were even bright enough to fail an econ class though. They want an abundant supply at low prices. It isn't going to happen.

The dems constantly tell me that they know how to live my life better than I do… because they believe in the nanny state.. its sickening no matter how you look at it.
