Democrats Slam McCain On Troops Coming Home “Not That Important” Comment

I mean, how dare McCain suggest that there may be other priorities in Iraq more important than the precipitous withdrawal of troops/abandonment of the Iraqi government we helped create!

Much like the “100 years in Iraq” comment the Democrats have been taking out of context for months now, there’s not much controversy here.  McCain is simply saying that the goal in Iraq is to complete the mission, part of which quelling violence caused by the factions opposing the Iraqi government.  This is nothing new, but if the Democrats can make it sound like McCain supports leaving the troops in Iraq forever that perception will be more important than the reality of his comments.

Also, it’s a neat trick to suggest that McCain doesn’t ever want to the troops to come home.  It’s worth remembering that just because the US presence in Iraq may go on for many more years, the troops serving there will be rotating in and out of the country.  Meaning that no specific troop is going to be in Iraq forever, or even “100 years.” The mission may be protracted, but deployments will remain as they are.

Comments

What did he say that was wrong..?  He is more concerned with casualities, and understands the long term relationship we will need to have there.

Oh, I get it.  The left just does not like honesty.  They would rather hear mindledd drivel and b.s. than honesty.

Sorry to waste your time.

You know these that want out now may have a point. Why should we care about places that harbor terrorists, let them fight it out. Heck they would never want to harm us. Would they?
Why should we care if Iran has nuke weapons, they would never use them, they just want them.
That whole part of the world is just plain peaceful.
Gee whizz, just look at Israel not a care in the world about any old terrorists. We’re just as safe.
Yep, bring’em home now the whole worlds a safe place.

Just because no one troop will be in iraq for 100 years doesnt make it any better.  Maybe they do not want to be there every other year period.  My husband has spent more time in iraq than he has spent home with his family.  That is not right.  I guarantee you if they started drafting again people would finally do something about stopping the war in Iraq.

Sally on June 11, 2008 at 04:06 pm

If you have to explain what McCain said, he loses the debate and POTUS!

I finally agree with the Left, lets get out now, today and screw the Iraqi’s and to hell with our troops. Why are these troops any better than Vietnam veterans, we got our asses whipped and chased out of there, why not Iraqi veterans. Fair is fair! Noboby gives a shit anyway!

I say lets bail out, run home and declare defeat now!

I give 10 shits. Declare victory and bring the troops home.

We lost! Our tropps are rapists and baby killers. We murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi’s Bush lied, people died! We murder others for oil profits! We are all murderers, including every one of our soldiers!

Declare victory and set up permanant bases in the area.  There is more work to do there and geographically we need a base or two/three.

Historically, this has been proven to be the right course of action.  Why mess with history..?

I do give a shit.  I am proud of what we are accomplishing in the 15th century part of the world.

And Sally.  Thank your husband for me.  He and his fellow soldiers are in me and my family’s prayers for the work that they are doing.  However, if they started drafting again, we would not have the quality of military your husband is serving in.

Why bring them home if victory is sure?  We have a lot of people in a lot of foreign bases which would make this just one more.  Besides they are probably safer in Iraq than in some of our cities, D.C. comes to my milnd.

You don’t have to be a moron to be a liberal Democrat but it sure helps.

IMO! Obama will, absolutely, be our next POTUS! We will pull out precipitously, Iraq will fall under Iranian control! We will never have the courage to go into the Middle East again, if nothing else because we want oil. We will surrender Israel to the Islamic militants and not defend them. It was all for nothing! All our troops died there for nothing! My son, grandson and nephew were all fools!

Neiman:

Obama will absolutely be our next POTUS.

Well, then it will come as no surprise to you that there are many here at SAB who think that would be a GREAT thing!  And I’m not talking about RBB and Hannitized.

You read it here every day in the postings from otherwise intelligent conservatives.

Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats’ feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar

Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;

Wrong.  They are patriots and don’t ever take that away from them.

Don’t lose your faith in this country based on one election that has not taken place yet.  Besides, once the intel on the middle east starts rolling into whomever is POTUS, I doubt much will change.

I heard you Sally and I agree. The rest are ignoring your comment because they don’t want to confront intellectual honesty or a war fighters wife.  Thank your husband for your service, and thank you.

I agree.  I turned against the war later on, but supported the surge and supported the idea of a draft.  This whole stop loss scam is a disgrace.

The republicans didn’t have the courage to do the right thing for fear of loosing the election.  That is the only reason why your husband has to serve too many tours, if he is.  My friends have also served 2-3 tours, proudly and without complaint.  But they deserve better.

Hannitized on June 11, 2008 at 08:30 pm

So instead of having people volunteer to serve their country...we force them to?

Look, I’m sorry your husband is home so infrequently. And I hope he makes it home to you, for good, not just alive, but unharmed. That said, your husband is a soldier. Soldiers go to war. Even in times of peace, soldiers can get sent abroad for years. Japan, Germany, Kuwait...your husband could still have been sent away for a year or years at a time. This is the nature of his job. This is what he signed up to do.

Forcing people who do not want to fight into the military will raise casualities exponentially. It will increase war crimes, desertion and treason. There is simply no plus side to the draft. The volunteer army we have has been much better educated, more efficient, and completely voluntary.

The “compassion” care that you and H are playing ignores the fact that your very solution is heartless and uncaring. You want your husband back, so you want to throw unwilling people to the wolves, and to hell with what that actually does in the real world. H just doesn’t give a shit period, and just likes to feel good about himself.

I have all the respect in the world for our soldiers. And I have nothing but sympathy for their families. But that doesn’t mean I give deference to them to offer awful and uncaring solutions and say nothing, just because they suffering. Bringing back the draft is unconscionable, and will lead to nothing but more death.

For the first time in my adult life, I am ashamed of my country.
