Democrats Ready To Pull Subsidies For Condoms, Abortions Out Of Stimulus Bill

It’s amazing what the harsh light of the public spotlight will do to porked up spending bills. Obama threw the idea under the bus yesterday, now Democrats are scattering from it like bugs streaming out from under a lifted rock.

WASHINGTON – House Democrats are likely to jettison family planning funds for the low-income from an $825 billion economic stimulus bill, officials said late Monday, following a personal appeal from President Barack Obama at a time the administration is courting Republican critics of the legislation.
Several officials said a final decision was expected on Tuesday, coinciding with Obama’s scheduled visit to the Capitol for separate meetings with House and Senate Republicans.
The provision has emerged as a point of contention among Republicans, who criticize it as an example of wasteful spending that would neither create jobs nor otherwise improve the economy.

What I hope doesn’t happen is for Republicans to hang this scalp on their belts, pat themselves on the back for a job well done, and let the rest of the steaming pile of horse pucky make it through Congress. Only 3% of the “stimulus” is to be spent on actual infrastructure (roads and bridges), and even that spending isn’t going to stimulate the economy unless you buy into the broken window fallacy.
Republicans need to block the stimulus bill, not declare victory out of minimizing a few of the most odious chunks of it.

Rusty may have it right. This spending is likely intended as a diversion from dealing with the failure of this type of “stimulus”. This way the outrage is spent on the really, really absurd and the really absurd gets a pass.

    It’s a distraction …

Might as well plug the new fall show “Are you smarter than an Obama voter”? Going to be a big hit.

The American people shoud not have to sanction infantcide nor family planning.

Call me cynical, bit I have to wonder if:

A – This means a reduction in spending by the amount designated for this boondoggle, and,
B – If there are not some ‘sacrificial lambs’ in this POS spending bill that will be “jettisoned”, thereby enabling both the left and right to say they have “reached a compromise…”

Is the overall cash being reduced, or is it being reallocated?

You tea-idiots crack me up YOU GO TO EXTREMES! Yes now you want to ban even condoms! Yeah, while all those extra women have children that they can’t take care of, they will also have to deal with constant std s and Aids/Hiv! We are already overpopulated and we are taking away more funding to help the poor etc,,. Where is all of the money going to come from?

Liberal stupidity never ceases to amaze me. Nobody was talking about “banning” condoms. We just don’t want to have to pay for them. Why should I, or anyone else, have to pay for someone’s birth control. Let them get a job and pay for it themselves. And if “extra women” don’t want to have “children that they can’t take care of” or “stds/Aids/Hiv” then they should not engage in sexual activity until they are fully prepared for the possible outcomes.

It’s not the taxpayers job to protect people like that.
