Democrats Kill Bill To Allow Off-Shore Drilling For Oil In Committee

Just like they killed an attempt to open up Colorado oil shale deposits to exploration and production.

The Democrats tell us that they care about high gas prices and want to do something to solve it, but they won’t let oil companies in America actually produce any more oil.  Instead, the only solution they ever have is “tax the oil companies.”  Which may be a solution to the “liberal politicians don’t have enough of our tax dollars to spend” (and that’s not even really a problem), but it’s certainly not a solution to high gas prices.

This is typical of the radical left that has taken over the democratic party.  If making the American people hurt financially will help them politically then so be it.

Look at the numbers.  About 95% of the GOP votes to expand our production and help lower prices while the democrats oppose every measure to drill and would instead put a windfall profits tax on the oil companies.

Carter put those taxes on the oil companies and the oil companies scaled down production to keep from paying the outrageous tax rates.  That is what any company would do.  The democrats need to quit pulling media stunts and do something to fix the problem!!!

I agree mpls Bob.  The republicans and John McCain are pissing away a golden opportunity in this election to clobber the democrats.  I doubt that they have the guts or the game plan to take them out.

So the Democrats who rant and rave about our country’s “dependence on foreign oil” and who ignorantly excoriate the oil companies over $4 per gallon gas, have once again voted to ensure that those oil companies cannot find and develop more domestic sources of oil.

Demand increases while supply dwindles.

I can’t wait to see what liberal fool tries to justify this latest example of economics-illiterate Democrat stupidity.

We are in danger of being overrun by the dem’s. Their congressional stalling and anti-Bush rethoric, along with the repub’s that caught with their hands in the cookie jar, has created a angry political landscape. The occasional voter doesn’t vote issues, they vote popularity contests. If the price of oil drops $30. a barrel cuz of any new drilling legislation, the dem’s lose. Class warfare works with the part-time voter! Gimme, gimme gimme is the uneducated thought of the part-time electorate. Big gov’t will give all that we could ever want. If they only knew they were “cutting off their noses to spite their face”. When all these new taxes finally hit we’ll see the real recession sink us! Socialist democracy historically has never worked. Hopefully we wake up in time.

Ancient Rome, England, France, Russia all fell from being top world leaders of their day when their bloated socialist gov’t beurocracies rotted their values and productivity from within. The same can happen to America if we don’t stop this advance toward socialism. Even the Chinese recognized that the energy of giving their people the personal latitude to succeed (capitalism)was their only hope of survival. If we keep on this path, China may become the new dominate world ppower in our lifetime!

We can’t drill our way out of this problem, we have to drill AND refine our way out of this problem. More refineries and more drilling/pumping. Democrats are fighting tooth&nail to strip America of its ability to supply itself with fuel, and continue to expand our dependence on foreign petroleum.

And sanni is absolutely giddy with this situation.

H,

Perhaps you will be good enough to explain how increasing supply in the face of worldwide rising demand will not lower prices, but increasing taxes on the producers will?  By what mechanism does increasing the cost of doing business for the producers result in lower prices at the wholesale and retail levels?

BatOne:  Hannitized has just clearly articulated the liberal view on energy supply. “Someday, somewhere, somehow, it will run out… better to stop tapping it now, tax anyone connected with big oil, and spend the dollars on stuff like wind-farms.”

Translating that view to the personal human experience, one could just as easily say that somehow, somewhere, sometime, your life is going to run out. Why not end it now and supplement the death-tax.”

Liberals like H simply cannot see or admit the nihilistic view of their own illogical logic.

Do liberals like H give a rats-ass about the sexual activities of Artic moose? Hell, no!

Does it bother them that China is successfully drilling oil 50 miles from our shores and we can’t?  Hell, no!

Does it even bother them that the very people they claim to care about - the working poor - are hardest hit by their blind folly?  Hell, no!

It’s all about GETTING those damn republicans and conservatives… regardless of the cost, regardless of the damage.

pparets,

This,

Translating that view to the personal human experience, one could just as easily say that somehow, somewhere, sometime, your life is going to run out. Why not end it now and supplement the death-tax.

is worthy of a much more in-depth discussion, either privately or in a separate post, for it is remarkably perceptive, and even prescient.

That aside, I was hoping to amuse myself watching H try to rationalize the Democrats’ attempts at increasing oil company costs while systematically limiting their access to supply.  And all in the name of and behalf of the American consuming public.

Most of the figures I’ve seen suggest that worldwide, we have used up roughly 40% of the known and proven reserves of crude oil in the past 100 years or so.  The undiscovered reserves may constitute at least as much as those proven so far… we really don’t know.  But at even $100 per barrel crude, exploration and recovery are cost effective… another concept beyond the comprehension of those on the Left.

I have been looking all over CNN for this story about the Dems blocking, on a 9-6 party line vote, off-shore drilling.  And can’t find it anywhere.  Not published or did I miss it?  In any event, here is what I think:

Hey folks, it’s simple. The “Greenies” strike again, and Obama is right behind, or possibly in front, of them. Look at his statement about the price of gasoline: “”I think that I would have preferred a gradual adjustment. The fact that this is such a shock to American pocketbooks is not a good thing.” Meaning he has no problem with the price of gas, just that it came too fast. The environmental movement wants higher prices. And that is why all 9 Dems on the committee voted against the exploration. Yes, you can blame both parties for historical failures, but the immediate blame is fully with the Dems. And the future blame, if he is elected, can already be assigned to Obama and his legion of cultist.

Fox News is where you can usually get The Truth.  CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC and CBS hide or even make up fake stories like the Dan Rather forgery.

Does anyone question whether what Dan put up two weeks before a Presidential election was a forgery?

There may be one or two here, but again, I am not sure even they believe themselves.

Fox News is where you can usually get The Truth.

In reality, Fox viewers are completely uninformed

Looking at the misperceptions one at a time, people were asked, for example, if the U.S. had discovered the alleged stockpiles of WMD in Iraq since the war began. Just 11% of those who relied on newspapers as their “primary news source” incorrectly believed that U.S. forces had made such a discovery. Only slightly more — 17% — of those who relied on NPR and PBS were wrong. Yet 33% of Fox News viewers were wrong, far ahead of those who relied on any other outlet.

Jack,

Neither Stephen Benen nor PIPA are reasonably regarded as objective by anyone other than those on the far Left.

For that matter, the study PIPA/UM you cite did not use the phrase “completely uninformed” as you have.

Fact is, Jack, as a political pundit of any modest repute, you’ll have a helluva career as a cafeteria worker!

Jack.  I believe I have posted to you before.  Have you replied there?
Your study cited, in 2003 says this:

In the audience for NPR/PBS, however, there was an overwhelming majority who did not have any of the three misperceptions, and hardly any had all three.

NPR is biased.  Period.  To use NPR/PBS as the benchmark for a study is biased on its face.

Here is an example of the bias:  “These poor dupes (emphasis supplied) would have done better in this survey, statistically speaking, if they received no news at all and simply guessed whether the claims were accurate.

Let’s assume - for the sake of argument - that Jack’s claim is true. 1/3 of FOXNEWS viewers got it wrong on WMD.

Since the FOXNEWS viewing audience is larger than CNN, MSNBC and PBS combined, then the 2/3 of FOXNEWS viewers who got it right constitute the largest, best informed audience in TV news, cable or otherwise.

In regards to this post about drilling…

I feel that a woman needs to speak:)  Myself and my family are part of the working America that with our tax dollars help support the “stupid’s” that vote Democratic, grrrrr.

I feel that the whole congress needs to be kicked out and we need to start from the beginning.  Both sides need to grow up and learn how to play well with each other!!  They need a woman in there to remind them that the hard working family doesn’t need a hand out!  We need prices to be within our price range!  We need to drill and start to make the Middle East shake in their boots because we are going to become self sufficient like parents do for their kids.

We teach our kids to grow up and stop relying on others to help you.  How can we do that when because of the Dems my 16 year old cannot find a job because there are adults that need a second job to support their families?  I cannot give him a car because with out the job he cannot pay for his gas and insurance.  I bet they want him to walk/ride his bike miles to find a job or better yet have me work my 8-10 hours a day and then cart him around to find the job…I am pissed off!!  Drill now and let my other two kids who in 10 years will benefit more for have a country that can support themselves!!!
