Democrats Having A Hard Time Staying On Message

Last night came the news that the man the Democrats have basically had on point for demagoguing all things Iraq in a defeatist manner, John Murtha, is admitting that there is progress in Iraq.  But even as late as Wed. of this week people like Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden have been calling the idea of success in Iraq a “fantasy.”

DES MOINES—Democratic presidential candidate Joseph Biden says any talk that the U.S. troop surge in Iraq is working is “fantasy” since its goal was to lead to a fully functioning unity government in the war-torn country.

So...is Murtha in a fantasy land all of a sudden?

Murtha’s comments present a real problem for Democrats.  They have invested so much of themselves in the idea that Iraq is lost, now one of the war’s most ardent critics from among their own ranks says there is progress.

They find themselves between a rock and a hard place, I think.

It’s worse than that. They are, in fact, between Iraq and a hard place.

It is simply unimaginable that anyone takes anything Joe Biden says seriously.

Murtha, on the other hand, IS a real problem for the Democrats.  He came within a whisker of being chosen Democrat House Whip, and the Democrat Party has spent the last three years promoting him as the Dems’ “expert” on military affairs.  It now appears that their investment in Murtha has turned out to be suspiciously “sub-prime” and the entire Democrat prospectus of defeat and dishonor is now going into default… thanks to George Bush, David Petraeus, and the men and women of the US military.

They have committed themselves to this course and to change now will make them look bad to both their voter bases.

And Bravo1, my apologies for calling markie foul names for giving loans to people who can’t pay them back when it was in fact YOU not giving loans to people who can’t pay them back. My bad!

2H9,

Many years ago, I realized that sub-prime borrowers were a “built-in” source of repeat business later on once their credit had been improved and their scores increased.  The trick was record-keeping and follow-up, including a detailed credit analysis and a list of specific steps to build up credit and improve scores.  Obviously, over the years I have not kept track of every single loan and every single client I’ve had, but as far as I know, no loan that I have originated has gone into foreclosure.

Incidentally, there are plenty of reasons for an individual to have “sub-prime” credit, and often it is through no fault of their own.  The common misconception is that everyone who has less than sterling credit is a slug or a credit risk, and that all sub-prime loans are somehow bad.  But like most other blather from less than knowledgeable commenters like Mark, it just isn’t so.

Incidentally, Mark only has to the end of March ‘08 for Countrywide Financial to file bankruptcy.  Of course, when CFC does NOT file, he’ll likely claim that the Fed bailed out his favorite mortgage company, but if he really knew half as much as he would have us believe, he would have anticipated the Fed’s moves.

I got treated to 3 hours of listening to idiots crying about losing their houses and the “Govmint” not doing anything about it yesterday. Had I not been a pall bearer and had to stay there I would have told them all to shut the fuck up and walked out. I was in a less than congenial mood by the time I got home.

2H9,

No apologies are necessary, my friend.

Strange about that funeral, though.  A good friend lost his father to a sudden heart attack this week, and another lost her mother to complications from cancer.

We have had a string of funerals here, too. Been a strange few months all the way around.

Is Murtha mentally ill?

Yes, ZZ. He clearly has Alzheimers. And no, I am not joking.

Somehow I don’t think you could possibly be joking. He is a nut! It’s almost like he has tourettes sydrome or something similar???
