Democrats Give Petraeus Insulting Reception In Congress

Good grief…

Gen Petraeus was given a tough reception by Tom Lantos, the Democratic chairman of the foreign relations committee, who said: “The administration has sent you here to tell us that victory is at hand. I don’t buy it.

Sure. Accuse him of being a liar before he even utters a word. Why not. It’s not like he hasn’t already been called a traitor by MoveOn.
By the way, Petraeus opened his remarks by noting that while he has communicated information up his “chain of command” (this means to the Pentagon and thus the commander-in-chief) his prepared testimony today was written and prepared by himself, and that nobody else had seen it prior to his disseminating it at the hearing.
But Lantos and other Dems still think he’s a liar, I guess. Which is something they wouldn’t be saying if he were offering a critique of the war more in keeping with their preconceived political notions.

“No one wants to call [Petraeus] a liar on national TV,” noted one Democratic senator, who spoke on the condition on anonymity. “The expectation is that the outside groups will do this for us.”

    - Politico.com columnist John Bresnahan, discussing “the half-dozen tactics being used by Democratic leaders to rebut (General) Petraeus and (Ambassador) Crocker…”

So much for any dissociation between MoveOn.org and the Democrat party. And as of this morning, none f the Democrats running for their party’s 2008 presidential nomination has publicly condemned the MoveOn/NYT ad.

You don't get to be a 4 star general by not being political. Obviously, Gen Petraeus would keep political implications in mind as he was preparing his report.

The attempt by the Republicans to associate MoveOn with mainstream Democrats is more of a "good grief" move.

    How are they different?

"The attempt by the Republicans to associate MoveOn with mainstream Democrats is more of a "good grief" move."

You mean "mainstream" democrats like Lantos ? Reid ? Durbin ? Schumer ? Kerry ? Edwards ? Teddy ?

    Yeah…good grief..

It was MoveOn.org's Eli Pariser who said of the Democratic party, "Now it's our party. We bought it, we own it, and we're going to take it back."

MoveOn.org is the Democratic party. Not a knifeblade of difference between them.

But Lantos and other Dems still think he's a liar

The Dems are such ardent liars themselves concocting falsehoods, innuendo and misinformation for political purposes that they believe everybody else is as untruthful as themselves. In their twisted minds, they can't imagine that anyone can be honest and forthright.

Lantos, a native of Hungary who fled in between the Nazi takeover and that of the Soviet Communists, is an economist with a Phd., so he is clearly not a stupid man as are so many of his Democrat colleagues.

He also has no military experience whatsoever, so his judgment of General Petreaus, like that the other Democrats in congress, is based solely on partisanship and has nothing to do with the situation on the ground in Iraq.

The fact is, Tom Lantos, and most of his congressional colleagues, are not competent to judge our efforts in Iraq. The fact that they would describe General Petreaus as a liar, even before he offered one word of testimony, tells me that to Democrats, partisan advantage is still far more important than the reality of foreign affairs and national defense. The defense of our country in the face of an extremely determined and resourceful enemy, is simply too important to be placed in the hands of unserious Democrat hacks.

The attempt by the Republicans to associate MoveOn with mainstream Democrats is more of a "good grief" move.

It's not an attempt, it's simply a stated fact.

    Prove me wrong.

The attempt by the Republicans to associate MoveOn with mainstream Democrats

The Republicans have also tried to associate Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and Harry Reid with mainstream Democrats. Is there no depth to which the wascally Wepubwiccans will not stoop?

  • Skunkfeathers

Prove you wrong about Republicans associating so-called "mainstream" democrats with Moron.arg? I submit that Republicans don't need to make such a claim, whatever truth to it there is or isn't; so-called "mainstream" democrats add fuel to making it so by their abysmal silence when Moron.arg purports to speak on their behalf with such patented drivel as their pre-Petraeus attack ad of dubious antecedence and no facts whatsoever.

    Game set match.

Is it a coincidence that the Dems are silent about the radicals in their party similar to how the muslims are silent about their Islamic radicals? Yet, another example of brotherhood between muslims and liberals.

  • docdave

Imagine moron.org being the hitman for the mainstream Dems who don't have the balls to speak for themselves. One more example of their deceit. You want to trust them to run the country?
