Democrats Don’t Think Iraq Is Like Vietnam

Or, more accurately, they don’t think Iraq is like Vietnam in the way that President Bush thinks Iraq could be like Vietnam. Because left-wing demagogues have been trying to paint Iraq as Vietnam since, well, pretty much the day we invaded.
But their rejection of the President’s argument does illustrate the dishonesty inherent in all of those Vietnam comparisons the left has made in the past. They want to invoke the unpopularity and controversy of the Vietnam war, as well as the popular uprising among the people of America that ended it, while ignoring the consequences of our giving up. And by consequences I mean millions slaughtered in Cambodia, hundreds of thousands imprisoned in “re-education camps” while millions more tried to flee southeast Asia in a fog of desperation that saw many of them risking the dangers of the Pacific in little more than canoes.
The cut-and-run liberals don’t want you thinking about that aspect of Vietnam. But the President does, because he feels Americans should know that a sudden withdrawal from Iraq isn’t the end of our troubles that stem from the middle east.

But how quickly most Dumocrats forget their man Nixon pulled out of Vietnam. I think it was dangerous for Bush to compare because initially he wanted to steer clear of comparisons. Now he makes a comparison and I think it makes him look bad when at first our party said “nothing like Vietnam!” now we’re supposed to say “well, kinda, but it proves we should stay.” He might have asked what would have happened if we’d decided to leave WWII early. He should steer clear of Dumocrat disasters like Vietnam which they started with Kennedy in 68 and then pulled out of in 75.

According to the left, a la Dick Durbin, Pol Pot was an atrocious murderer and torturer. But now they, a la John Kerry, deny he even existed. It’s amazing to watch them flip and flop like a fish out of water in the name of political expediency.

By the time Kennedy became president, Eisenhower had already put 700 “advisors” in Viet Nam. Kennedy should have pulled them out but he didn’t.

The South Vietnamese people did not like us when we were there and they blamed us when we left. They believed that we were the cause of most of the trouble and we were. The capitulation would have been a lot less catastrophic in human terms if we had never gone in not to mention the loss of 50,000 American soldiers.

The Cambodians refused to let us into their country to shut down the Ho Chi Min Trail which would have won us the war. We secretly, which got out, bombed it. What did the U.S. have to do with what happened in Cambodia before or after we left Viet Nam? Is it guilt by proximity?

    Nixon a democrat?

You can not expect Iraq to be ruled by or expect to be successful in applying U.S. democracy in the country. You can not anticipate or apply the same moral values. The country has been ruled by tribal terror for over 2,000 years. There is no freedom of speech or religion. There is tolerance by the ruling tribe as long as your tribe doesn’t get out of line. If people don’t like what you say or the religion you follow, they will kill you in the name of god and their will not feel guilty about it. The assumption is that they want democracy and they don’t. They want their particular tribe and associated religion to rule and are willing to go to any extreme to help that happen. They will not be resigned to having lost an election.

The entire populations of Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Iraq are not worth the life of one United Staes soldier.

ews48 – You can not expect Iraq to be ruled by or expect to be successful in applying U.S. democracy in the country.

You are ignoring the successful national elections and you are ignoring the fact that democracy is working there.

They will not be resigned to having lost an election.

    They already have.

It’s time to change your talking points ews48. Your old ones are woefully out of date.

abraham said, By comparing his war to Vietnam in this way Bush just said the equivalent of, “Hitler was misunderstood”.

Can you pause from your silly laughing long enough to explain this?

And you guys swallowed it up, like a girl who will do anything for her boyfriend swallows his wad everytime she sucks him off.

Sounds like you’re talking from personal experience.

You’re not a serious person abraham. Can we expect more of these kinds of juvenile antics from you?

We killed 2-3 million Vietnamese in that war/ Did that help them?

We were in Viet Nam for 10 years with little to show for it. How long were we supposed to stay, 20, 30, 40 years. Would they have been better off as an American instead of a French colony?

The Khemer Rouge came to power because of our intervention and illegal bombing that destabilized their government.
