Democrats Block Census Question: Are You A US Citizen?

Sure. Why would we want to limit a count of American citizens to actual citizens? Especially when counting illegal immigrants would mean more political representation for traditionally liberal districts?

WASHINGTON – Senate Democrats have blocked a GOP attempt to require next year’s census forms to ask people whether they are a U.S. citizen.
The proposal by Louisiana Republican Sen. David Vitter was aimed at excluding immigrants from the population totals that are used to figure the number of congressional representatives for each state. Critics said Vitter’s plan would discourage immigrants from responding to the census and would be hugely expensive.

This isn’t about excluding immigrants. This is about excluding illegal immigrants. And illegal immigrants should, in fact, be discouraged from responding to the census.
And what makes asking that question so expensive? You ask them to prove their citizens. If they aren’t citizens you wrap up the interview and move on.
This isn’t about inclusiveness. This is about robbing political power from traditionally conservative areas and giving it to more liberal areas.
It’s as bad as vote fraud, if you ask me.

No mention of Citizenship in Article 1 Section 2:

The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they [Congress] shall by Law direct.

I’m not sure the issue of citizenship or legal residence is germane to an “actual Enumeration” of the populations of the several states.

Require the census workers to call ICE when they find a violator. Publicize that.

    I don’t think we’ll have any problems.

Article 1 Section 2 does not support your assertion.

I worked for the census bureau this last spring as part of their canvassing effort. During our training, we were specifically instructed that if we witnessed a crime or something suspicious, we were NOT to report it to the authorities.

BUT our instructor told us off the record that if it were him, he would report it anyway. I would imagine that when they gear up for the enumeration phase, that instructors across the country will be very specific in telling employees that they are NOT to report any suspicious activities.

But if I were an enumerator, I’d have my damn cell phone set to 911 speed dial and INS speed dial and I’d be calling in every meth lab, grow light, jihadist, or wetback I came across.

    Greetings:

I think that there should also be a question addressing dual/multiple citizenships. I am of the opinion that dual/multiple citizenships are another and potentially subversive step on the slippery slope of “transnationalism” which seems to hold much sway in certain political and academic circles.

The way the census is counted is imprtant to the Dems/Libs for Gerry Mandering purposes. The Dems/Libs also don’t like to verify elegibility to vote. It makes it tougher to rig the vote count.

“And illegal immigrants should, in fact, be discouraged from responding to the census. ”

That’s a fact? Does that absolve you from providing any reasoning whatsoever to support your *opinion*?

It is, RGRaves, if the purpose for doing so is as I indicated in my post.

Heh, I’d still do it. I have a copy of my birth certificate, S.S. card middle 2 numbers are 72, and a U.S. Passport, and my dad is still alive to tell them…although I he might just want to F**k with me considering what kind of an ornery kid I was (and still am), given the chance.

ONly US citizens. Lawbreakers and felons should not participate. This attempt to count everyone is merely a way to marginalize those who actually do the work and contribute to society; not sell drugs, kill people, murder Army troops and steal other people’s property. Why not just go overseas to count everyone who might “want to come to the USA, but can’t because _______ (fill in the blanks)”

  • spartacus

The question might as well be removed. Come on, who’s going answer it honestly? Hell, I was born here and I wouldn’t answer honestly just to f**k with the nosy bastages!

That should be common sense. If they find someone here illegally the authorities should be notified.

    This isn’t rocket science.
