Democrats Attacking Republican State Legislator Over His Service In Iraq

This is just plain disgusting:

When Josh Mandel got a call from the Marines last year asking him to return voluntarily to Iraq, he had much more to contemplate than when he first enlisted in 2000. He had just been elected to the Ohio state legislature. Family considerations were also important to him. He ultimately decided to serve a second tour in Iraq “because I didn’t join the Marine Corps to say no when my country called,” Mr. Mandel explains.
Of all the factors he weighed, Mr. Mandel says political concerns were not among them. Now he has been forced to deal with the politics of that decision. The opponent in his tough re-election fight, trial attorney Bob Belovich, is attacking Mr. Mandel’s service, arguing that he abandoned voters. Mr. Belovich’s wife, Barbara, acknowledged in an interview for this column that she has told voters that Mr. Mandel “went AWOL” (a military term for desertion) by fighting in Iraq.
Even Mr. Mandel’s motives for serving in Iraq are being questioned. Mrs. Belovich claimed in an interview with this columnist that Mandel “put his personal ambitions ahead of his constituents.” Asked why anyone would enter a war zone out of “personal ambition,” Barbara Belovich replied curtly, “Certainly he wasn’t serving our needs.”

Be prepared to get angry after reading this next part:

The Belovich campaign has not been bashful in going after Mr. Mandel’s military service. At a major Democratic Party event in Cleveland this March, while Mr. Mandel was still in Iraq, Mrs. Belovich told Mr. Alai, “Josh Mandel isn’t serving our country, he’s serving George Bush.”

Here’s Josh’s campaign website. He could probably use a little help to beat this jerk.

This is the problem when Democrats get idiots candidate like Mr. Belobitch. When a man is risking his life for a country he truly loves and gets slam by idiots, makes me boil. Serving in Iraq is no picnic. Especially during the holidays when you are away from your loves one who is also longing for your return. Can write anymore. Belobitch, get out of politics. You have no brain and your don’t want to serve the people under this country.

    That’s just despicable.

When a politician puts our troops in harms way in order to benefit himself, then it is his war. Not the US military call to arms. Apparently you are one of those military families that would blindly follow your leader into any situation without question.

When a politician follows 10 years of foreign policy set by the two Presidents before him and supported by both parties long before he ever took office, it is not HIS war, it is the country’s war. When the former President, his advisors, Congress, and the media all tell him his biggest problem coming into office is Iraq, it’s hardly HIS war. And when 75% of the country supports him finally following through on our country’s promise to liberate Iraq, and enforce our edicts…it is hardly HIS war.

    It is the country’s.

Whether or not it was prudent to do it when we did it or not is no longer the question. But it is our war, not just Bush’s. And trying to pass the blame off on Bush is dispicible. Shame on you.

ollie-B reminds us why Americans are increasingly distrustful of law enforcement, I have been a police officer and am still in law enforcement.

Looks like you missed the point. For starters, not everybody can be a police officer, while almost everybody wants crime to be fought. Now is it fair to demand police employment of those who want crime to be fought? No, of course not. It’s a silly line of attack.

What is illogical about questioning your willingness to back up your beliefs with action.

How many assumptions are you going to make here?

I bet you’re an awesome cop. People are guilty or innocent before you even look at the evidence.

Is it because you are such a coward that you are willing to let someone else die for you rather than risk your own life?

Wow, what a surprising tact for someone so reasonable. Hah.

I’m not one of your suspects, asshole.

When a politician puts our troops in harms way in order to benefit himself, then it is his war.

That’s not what happened here, though, so your point is moot.

    Americans aren’t buying it anymore.

That’s a lame line considering how fickle the American public is.

A USA Today/Gallup Poll indicated that 75% of US citizens felt the US did not make a mistake in sending troops to Iraq in March 2003.

Oh, now they disagree? Tough shit. We are over there and we will finish the job.

And by the same token, if you’re so gung ho for fighting crime, you would sign up to become a police officer. That line of reasoning works with the adolescent and others not attuned to something we call logic.

    diButler,
Temper! Temper! When a politician puts our troops in harms way in order to benefit himself, then it is his war. Not the US military call to arms. Apparently you are one of those military families that would blindly follow your leader into any situation without question. Well, guess what. History has taught us many thinks about the reasons we have gone to war and some just don’t wash. I have no respect for anyone who cared so little about the sacrifice of life and limb by his soldiers to satisfy his political agenda. Americans aren’t buying it anymore. And if that makes me unpatriotic, then you are a bigger fool than you think.
Patriotism is not my country right or wrong. Patriotism is about fighting to make your country the best it can be. That is what I am trying to do.

It’s people like Belovich that often make me wonder just how wide the definition of “domestic enemy” is in the phrase, “against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

  • Tim Volk

First of all I would like to thank Josh Mandel for his service to this country and everyone in it including this typical digusting lawyer Bob Belovich.Who in my opinion is nothing but a typical low life lawyer politician who wants nothing more than to help himself and his ego.I would love to see this narcissist on the battle field serving our country, alone of course with his ego,so no other real soldier had to count on him to help.Maybe he should have went over there, he probably could have talked the whole country into surrendering with the help of Obama,Pelose and Reed.People like him disgust me to no end.

    Pretty Disgusting Democrats, that thar…

I know Obama’s going to “transform” the Country..

But, sometimes I wonder if I’m still on the same Planet.

P.S., Rob. Who you voting for?

Once again the lefties repugnance is astounding, but not surprising.

They continue to expose how deeply they hate our country and all that it stands for.

Should the Komrade Hussein win, I think this will be reflected in the re-enlistment rates.

It could be very advantageous to have so many newly ETS’d soldiers in the general populace…… ;-)

Little late for Fred Thompson, Rob..

You mean, one less for McCain.

    Say hello to Barry.

It would seem to me that if you guys are so gung ho for the war you would do your patriotic duty and volunteer to serve in George’s military.

And by the same token, if you’re so gung ho for fighting crime, you would sign up to become a police officer.

That line of reasoning works with the adolescent and others not attuned to something we call logic.

  • di butler

    Ollie,

AWOL is desertion. If you aren’t where you are supposed to be, then you deserted. I came from a military family and I am sick of the way you and some of your fellow libs mock the military. You like to spew off at the mouth about brave, unselfish people. Shut up! It is NOT George’s military, but the US military. Why don’t you go to Europe where you will fit in better? I have tried to give you the benefit of the doubt, but you are just a total a-hole.

Kenny – And trying to pass the blame off on Bush is dispicible.

By the same token, as we are winning, they aren’t giving Bush the credit.

Bush only gets blame from the partisan hacks. Never accolades.

  • 2Hotel9

Murtha is doing much the same here in PA.

  • ollie-B

AWOL is not desertion. It stands for Absent Without Leave for all you non-military conservative types.

No argument there. Also, I know that we have an all volunteer military now. It would seem to me that if you guys are so gung ho for the war you would do your patriotic duty and volunteer to serve in George’s military. You may be patriotic. But, you’re not stupid. Right?

    Fred Thompson.

mandel is a political coward and immoral person, and his campaign tactics have directly put a family in so much danger that the police have become involved. congrats to him for being a poor excuse for a human being.

  • http://enigma-cypher.blogspot.com/ Enigma_Cypher

I just donated $25 Josh Mandel, he's worth more than 10 of Belovich.

  • barbnwmn

Tried to follow the link you posted Rob, and the article has been pulled. "The page you requested cannot be found".

Nothing on Josh Mandel's website, either.

  • km2012

Josh Mandel is a skinny Jew who tries to act like a redneck Gentile. What a fake! Oy!

  • Jimbones

    Josh has a teeny weeny
