Democrats Afraid Domestic Drilling Issue May Cost Them The White House

As well they should be.

Rep. Neil Abercrombie, D-Hawaii, who will address the Democratic Caucus on Tuesday, says, “Energy is the one issue that is consuming all the political oxygen in the congressional races, especially the tight races, the ones where we’re in peril, and those we want.”

He also believes that if his party does not take the lead on comprehensive energy legislation soon, it could jeopardize the Democrats’ bid for the White House. The legislator from Hawaii says, “This is the issue where we’re having the daylights beat out of us by Republicans and [this issue] can tip close states. ... This is Senator Obama’s election to win.”

The thing is, even if Democrats come around on oil drilling does that really absolve them of their stupidity on the issue?  Do we want to elect political leaders who make the right decisions for the right reasons?  Or political leaders who are just doing what they have to do on an issue Americans are paying attention to right now so that they can get elected or re-elected?

Seems to me that Democrats have proven themselves to be dead wrong on this issue, and there’s no going back from that now.

On a related note, Rep. Pelosi is demanding that drilling’s proponents prove to her that drilling actually works.  Perhaps oil companies should tell Pelosi that they could do that if she’d just let them drill.

It is going to cost the democrats some seats if they don’t start supporting drill her drill now type legislation.

The reason this will cost them isn’t why most people think.  Look, drilling for our own oil will not dramatically bring down the price of gasoline any time soon, nor will it solve our energy issues.  What it will do, however, is stabilize the market.  This is what the Dumocrats don’t get.

When the price rises and falls because of the disruption of supply that totals less than a Million BPD, we the non-inbred, non-banjo playing people of the USA understand that if you add the same amount from a stable source, i.e. our coastline, Alaska and everywhere else you can think of, it will stabilize the price and thus ease energy prices over the long run.  We also understand that all that money stays here, it creates jobs and those jobs create tax revenue.

Well got to get back to my porch and banjo....

Drill her? Out of all the things I’ve ever wanted to do to Nancy Pelosi…

...not one of them.

Yeah yeah, it was immature, but on occasion I just can’t help myself. wink
