Democrat Who Replaced Disgraced Rep. Mark Foley Agrees To Pay Off Mistress

There must be something in the water down in Florida.  First it was Foley getting creepy with congressional pages.  Now his Democrat replacement just had to pay off his former staffer and mistress.

Come for the pay-off, stay for the cover-up by Congressional Democrats:

West Palm Beach Congressman Tim Mahoney (D-FL), whose predecessor resigned in the wake of a sex scandal, agreed to a $121,000 payment to a former mistress who worked on his staff and was threatening to sue him, according to current and former members of his staff who have been briefed on the settlement, which involved Mahoney and his campaign committee.

Mahoney, who is married, also promised the woman, Patricia Allen, a $50,000 a year job for two years at the agency that handles his campaign advertising, the staffers said.

A Mahoney spokesperson would not answer questions about the alleged affair or the settlement, but said Allen resigned of her own accord and “has not received any special payment from campaign funds.”

Senior Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives, including Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), the chair of the Democratic Caucus, have been working with Mahoney to keep the matter from hurting his re-election campaign, the Mahoney staffers said.

Now that’s hypocrisy.  Cry foul over Foley, and rightfully so, then work to ensure Mahoney’s re-election.

We need a front page post documenting the indiscretions of this “most ethical congress in history”.

I liked the part where Democrats were “working to prevent it from interfering with his reelection campaign,” even though there appear to be credible allegations that the Congressman was carrying on other affairs.  Given that the woman is 50, it’s apparent that our mothers are not safe around Congressman Mahoney.

If only more politicians were married to women like Dick Armey’s wife.

Judging by the looks of him, I would bet that he also had to pay her before she was officially his mistress.

That guy’s creepy looking.  Good thing the election comes around Halloween time.

[W]hat you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I was thinking man, who would do him? Turns out he was cheating on the mistress! Hard to believe he could find that many women that find him hot. Of course the mistress is definately no babe.

He should resign immediately, or he deserves to be soundly defeated!

Not only should he resign, if laws were broken he should be tried and if found guilty suffer the full extent of the law.

Excuse me, you were saying?

To be fair, a lot of leftists defended Foley. It was probably that that convinced Foley not to retire.

For the most part: There really is no hypocracy here.

Sadly, Foley got a lot of airtime. This gets none.

he should be asked to resign like Foley was. This is unacceptable.

I like how this butt-wipe was all sanctimonious when Foley was e-mailing stuff, yet he was having an affair{s}. I listened to him and he sounded like he was just shocked and disgusted and that Foley was lower than worm dirt. Yeah.
