Democrat Response To The Minot Tea Party: Ed Schafer Is A Hypocrite?

Why, exactly is he a hypocrite? Because while he was Governor and Secretary of Agriculture he, uh, got his health care through his employer. The government.
Oh, and the Governor backs flood protection infrastructure in Fargo.

The Executive Director of North Dakota`s Democratic Party, Joe Aronson sent KMOT a statement responding to the tea party in Minot Wednesday. He told us in part… “Once again the hypocrisy of this Republican group is amazing. They`ll accept their government health care and a paycheck when in office, but oppose any actions to help out North Dakotans. Talk about saying one thing and doing another.”
Aronson went on to blame Former Governor Schafer for headlining Minot`s TEA party saying Schafer is a hypocrite because he is supporting a billion dollar federal flood protection project in Fargo.

So, the Democrats are against flood protection in Fargo? Or do they just want to confuse the issue by focusing on a sort of spending that is a legitimate role of government so that we’ll ignore all the ridiculous spending the government does?
Obviously, it’s the latter. Which is a common tactic with liberals. If you suggest cutting spending, they start talking about fire departments and police departments closing or something like that. But the reality is that there is plenty of spending in our government budgets that goes for things not nearly as necessary as fire departments and police departments.
As for Ed Schafer taking government health care, he worked for the government. Are we suggesting that our Governors and such work for free now?
Judging from this rather silly reaction to the Minot Tea Party, it’s pretty clear that these liberals in North Dakota are scared to death of a little dissent.
On a related note, here’s a video report about the tea party and the Minot Daily News’ coverage.

Where are the signs? Where’s Ed? Where is the patriotic garb? Where are the angry faces? I might have been kidding at first, but now I just don’t know. Something is wrong about it. I’m not quite sure what it is, but something is just not right. Hmm

After what Fox has been pulling, I don’t think we can really trust what we’re seeing anymore.

  • lock’em’up

    Pup

    Wait for it

    Pet.

  • sayanything-70

And we commend you for that. You are a much loved and honorable man.

  • sayanything-70

Because I first met him at the State Fair parade in 1991. And because I’ve seen the reaction of the people when he speaks. And because of the way people are so anxious to shake his hand and give him their best.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

I don’t care how desperate they are for soap. No way, no how.

  • lock’em’up

    He defaulted on it.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

Fair enough. I don’t want to bail out the hippies in California.

  • lock’em’up

Oh, I do believe that. I actually think you are the puppet master. Rob is just the male faced sock puppet to make some of the conservative comfortable.

  • lock’em’up

All of Obama’s appointees paid back their taxes too. So, they are ok, right?

  • sayanything-384

Actually, I paid it in full!

  • sayanything-70

    I repeat….. you are a jerk

  • sayanything-70

He may have but he eventually paid it all back. Jerkola

Taxes are different than bank business loans.

  • lock’em’up

Wow, learn to take a compliment. The Republican machine is far superior to the Democrats. Republicans have had vast databases of voter information and patterns to focus the robo calls to not only motivate likely republican voters, but also independents who were likely to be swayable. That is in addition to the shotgun marketing that is Fox “news” & E I B :) . They have done a great job for the party.

If you disagree, what makes you think the Democrats are better organized?

  • lock’em’up

Sorry mam, I know you can dish it but can’t take it. But, I didn’t dish it to you. When can Robbie take care of himself?

  • lock’em’up

We’re learning from you conservatives. I have told you before, you guys have been much better organized that the democrats for decades, and you are to be commended for being part of that. If we can’t invent a technique, we might as well steal yours.

  • sayanything-9974

Were do you get your information – it is certainly not based in any fact. The Dem/Libs are the people with the organizations in place. You are nothing but a conglomoration of organizations. Trade Unions, Teamsters, Government Unions, Teachers Unions, Move-On.org, Environmental Groups, Global Warming Hoax groups, Feminists and Pro-Abortion, Socialists, Communists, and Race Baiters like Acorn, Rainbow Push coalition are all affiliated with and staunch members of the Democrap party. Obama himself was a community organizer in Americas capital of corruption, Chicago. The real masters of organiztion are the Dem/Libs your problem is that people are tired of the lies, corruption and bullying that goes along with these organizations. You must be very proud of the beatings, bitings and bullying perpetrated by the thugs members and allys on your side. The tipping point is very near – This is no astroturf movement. This is the silent majority finding its voice.

  • djer

Here’s the hypocrisy Rob: You wrote this a while back: .

“I think the main comparison is to look at the attitudes of the people. In New Orleans, it was all about “Who is going to bail me out?” In Fargo it’s “Hey, let’s bail ourselves out!”. posted by Rob.

So, now Shafer wants the feds to bail out Fargo. Fargo is not bailing itself out! That’s the hypocrisy of standing up at a teabagger event and railing against the government while asking the federal government to protect his home in Fargo. He is working with the Democratic delegation from ND to procure federal money. That’s the hypocrisy, Rob and your hypocrisy as well.

  • sayanything-70

My opinions have nothing to do with Rob. I calls ‘em as I sees ‘em.

  • lock’em’up

Funny, if you click the Ed Schafer pic that you posted, the image details say:

“U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer holds a press conference on food safety and security at the new U.S. embassy in Beijing December 3, 2008. Schafer told reporters he was very confident of the quality of Chinese products, despite food safety scandals involving pet food, toothpaste and dairy products.”

Anyway, you forgot about his business’ loans from the Bank of ND, an government run socialist organization in North Dakota.

  • djer

Really Mountain Mouth, where do I start..hmmm….let’s see: Richard Mellon Scaife, Americans for Prosperity, the Koch brothers, ATR, ALEC, Heritage, CATO, C Street, the 60 plus group, Freedom works.

Really, Mountain Mouth you should look up the meaning of astroturf. Silent majority finding its voice, Ha!

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

Are we saying that the Feds have to come in and build everyone a new house?

    No.

They are saying that help in building the dikes around Fargo, like the dikes
in New Orleans are ok to get help from the federal government.

The biggest thing comparing New Orleans and Fargo and Grand Forks is that
the people of Fargo worked hard to save their town or to rebuild our homes
    in GF.

People in New Orleans didn’t do that.

  • sayanything-7715

Joe was bloviating again because he is offended that people are exercising their right of assembly and ability to express their concerns with like minded constituents. Classic liberal social thinking, shut-up and sit down and take it like the Northern Plains Heritage Area residents have been treated.

  • sayanything-453

    Rob said:

Are we suggesting that our Governors and such work for free now?

Hell yes! The assholes (politicians) always claim they serve.
If they truly serve us, then serve without compensation.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Yeah, it sounds like another tea party in Bismarck in April. But it’s all very, very preliminary at this point.

I’ll be sure to post everything on the blog.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Did you not see the links I posted earlier to the media reports?

Both KFYR and the Minot Daily covered the event with pictures. You can clearly see it’s the same crowd.

So, unless you think that KFYR, the Minot Daily News, Ed Schafer and me are all acting in collusion to pull the wool over your eyes you should maybe just apologize for being a liar right now.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Defaulting on a loan taken out for a business venture that didn’t work out isn’t the same thing as not paying your taxes.

  • sayanything-453

    And you know this, how?

  • sayanything-453

I am opposed to my taxes (or as you say my money) being spent on North Dakota.
    It does nothing for me.

  • sayanything-6955

I still say Earl is losing, the dims are feeling the heat, and they cant stand to see these tea parties and all the every day folks showing up. I am glad to see your support up in Minot Rob, great gig! keep me posted on the next Bismarck gathering, I will be more than happy to help. Ed Schafer needs to stay engaged.

  • sayanything-453

Yep! No North Dakotan is to be ever forced to bail out the hippies in California.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

    Much better organized?

    You’re kidding, right?

Before the tea parties, when was there ever a large-scale protest movement within the conservative movement?

Honestly. You should try just accepting reality for what it is instead of trying to shape it to fit your political views.

  • sayanything-453

    I’ve always been for infrastructure.

Always? Always Mr Port? Do you now support the building of the Jamestown Regional Medical Center?

  • sayanything-7406

Hey, I actually agree with you on that one.

  • sayanything-453

    Rob asked:

So, the Democrats are against flood protection in Fargo?

    I think not.
But I believe the money should come from the North Dakotans that will benefit from this.
You always cry how the state has a budget surplus and needs to cut taxes. Use that money to flood protect Fargo.
Are the cons/neocons/repubs in N. Dakota against using their money for flood protection?
Don’t they get enough from the federal teat already?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

I’ve always been for infrastructure. I don’t have a problem with the interstate highway system, for instance. And given that Red River flooding has both interstate and international implications (I know you’re nearly illiterate so I’ll just clue you into the fact that the Red River flows through multiple states into Canada, and that it’s flood plain also impacts multiple states) this is an appropriate place for federal dollars.

And, actually, Fargo just raised taxes to pay its share for flood protection.

Again, don’t have a problem with that.

But this is the point. Rather than talking about the deficits being caused by unnecessary spending, you liberals throw out the sort of spending the governemnt is supposed to be doing and accuse conservatives of being against that.

It’s called a “strawman” and it’s illustrative of just how intellectually bankrupt you folks are.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Well, speaking at the state level, you Democrats have more money. And more activists.

Conservatives, by their nature, are not protesters. And we’re not a bunch of lock-step idealogues. We are independent thinkers who are not easy to organize.

I’ve learned that lesson the hard way over the last couple of years.

By the way, you are going to be honest and apologize for lying about me faking the pictures of the tea party right?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

    Don’t confuse lock’em’up with facts.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Flood protection is a valid federal spending project. It impacts multiple states, and has international implications as well.

And keeping our communities from being washed away is infrastructure. Our spending problems in this country have nothing to do with infrastructure.

Which you know, of course, but you’re obfuscating because it’s easier to talk about that then all the wasteful spending the government does.

Pretty boring. You guys are like a one-note song.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

    Ha.

My mom is a pretty smart lady. She used to give me sample ballots to “vote” with when I was a little kid. And I’d be lying if I said my mother wasn’t a big influence on me.

    But I’m nobody’s puppet.

Really, though, what’s motivating all this hate? Do you really think your insane conspiracy theories are winning people to your side

  • sayanything-453

“And we commend you for that. You are a much loved and honorable man.”

I don’t say he is not, but do you have proof of your assertions?

  • sayanything-453

Because I first met him at the State Fair parade in 1991. And because I’ve seen the reaction of the people when he speaks. And because of the way people are so anxious to shake his hand and give him their best.

Lot’s of people first met president Clinton at state fairs/parades, and I have seen the reaction of the people when he speaks. People are so anxious to shake his hand and give him their best.
Many millions more do so for Clinton than for Ed Schafer.
Would you also vouch for President Clinton?

Also be advised that in 2001 when President Bush Met Russia’s President Putin he said at the time: “I looked the man in the eye. I was able to get a sense of his soul.”
Mr Bush described Mr Putin as a straightforward and trustworthy man.
Do you agree with his assessment?
Because I’ll have you know madam, that when Russians meet Putin, I’ve seen the reaction of the people when he speaks. People are so anxious to shake his hand and give him their best.
Would you also vouch for ex President Putin?

  • sayanything-453

    Well said djer.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

So wait, because he got some loans from a bank (even if it is a state-run bank) he’s not a conservative?

    Really?

Just because a loan comes from BND doesn’t mean it was subsidized by the taxpayers.

You do know that this grasping at straws makes you look…sort of dumb, right? And by the way, that you guys are so scared by a few conservatives getting together and making some noise positively fills my heart with glee.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

By the way, I love how all you liberals are right on point with your talking points. Letter to the editor in the Forum with these talking poitns. They come out of the mouth of the flak-in-chief for the party. Now you’re here spouting them off.

It’s almost like you people don’t think for yourselves or something.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

So do a lot of entrepreneurs and business people.

Your point? Outside of muddying the waters because you don’t want to talk about the huge spending bills and deficits being passed by liberals?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

By the way, Schafer paid both of the loans he defaulted on back in 1993.

He started a business venture. It didn’t work so well. But he paid off his creditors.

Lots of people have failed at things in life. That’s the nature of free markets. And Ed, unlike so many liberals, didn’t go crawling to anyone for a bailout.
