Democrat Representative Took Trip Paid For By Terrorists

Yikes...

WASHINGTON, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- A trip to Sri Lanka by U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, D-Ill., reportedly paid for by a terrorist group, is under investigation, sources tell the Chicago Tribune.

The 7-day journey by Davis and an aide last year was said to have been funded by the Tamil Tigers, a group the U.S. government designated as a terrorist organization, the Tribune said.

The trip came under scrutiny after 11 supporters of the organization were arrested in an alleged conspiracy to aid the terrorist group through money laundering, arms procurement and bribery.

I'm not buying that Rep. Davis didn't know that this trip was sponsored by the Tigers. Davis himself admitted that he spent of his time in regions controlled by the Tigers, so either Davis knew that the trip was backed by the Tigers and didn't care or he is incredibly naive and couldn't figure it out.

You pick.

Either way, here's a listing of terror attacks carried out by the Tigers, including most recently a bomb attack on a bus carrying civilians which killed 68 and wounded 60.

It’s hard to believe there isn’t a master list of terrorist organizations somewhere, and that it isn’t used to constantly check this kind of thing.  The Tamil Tigers have been around for a long time, so there is no excuse for this oversight.

If govt control of the economy were the way to go, the Soviet Union would be the richest, most powerful nation in the history of the world.

Thanks to Obama, America remains the only country where it is illegal to drill our own oil!

I’m tired of politicians claiming they didn’t know who paid for their gratuities. Tom Delay and this guy are birds of a feather.

Very disengenious Greg.  It was Rob’s Senator, Byorn Dorgan who tried to claim that he didn’t know he was using Jack Abramoff’s luxury box at the MCI center.

Maybe he thought the Tamil Tigers were a soccer team. Afterall, he is a democrat and they are weak on defense issues in general. He can plead stupidity and get away with it.

snicker

I keep telling you, the “culture of corruption” is a democrat issue all its own.

Well let’s see Tom Delay was stripped of his leadership and tried not to run.

Byron Dorganoff (Rob’s Senator) is still in the Democrat leadership.  Culture of corruption no doubt.

If this is proven to be true…he should be thrown out, period.

I keep telling you, the “culture of corruption” is a democrat issue all its own.

Gov. Ernie Fletcher of Kentucky, who was indicted in May in connection with a hiring scandal, signed an agreement yesterday admitting wrongdoing by his administration and promising to reconstitute the state’s Personnel Board

The photo shows Schmidt near the finish line at the marathon with a time clock showing 3:19:06, which would have made her one of the top finishers. But a newspaper list of the top runners does not include Schmidt, said Nathan Noy, who is seeking to run as a write-in candidate against Schmidt.

The Republican had insisted he would not resign, even if indicted over his dealings with Abramoff. In his first primary test in a decade, Ney won 68 percent of the vote May 2 against a little-known opponent.

But in a statement released by his campaign Monday, Ney, 52, said he had decided to withdraw from his race for a seventh term.

Culture of corruption no doubt.

What did he do that was so bad? How has he benefited the terrorists in any way?

If immediately after his trip, he started sponsoring pro-Tamil Tigers legislation, I could see the problem. But if he just took money from them?

You don’t think that getting to hob-nob with a U.S. Congressman grants this group legitimacy?

Get your head out of your butt.

You are equating Abramoff with a terrorist group?  Even the NYT doesn’t have the stones to do that.

HOW about marrying the daughter of a terrorist?

Illinois must have something in the water:

The marriage has raised local and national controversy, as Ríos Montt’s father is a former dictator[2][3], accused of genocide [4], with an international warrant for his arrest [5]. General Efraín Ríos Montt, 18-month term in office was characterized by a scorched earth policy that some observers believe to have amounted to many thousands of deaths the country’s indigenous Maya people. [6] The U.S. State Department calculates the death toll under the Ríos Montt presidency at about 200,000. [7] Zury Ríos Montt has been quoted calling her father “her inspiration”. [8]

This has caused concern among many 11th district voters, [9] who have asked that Weller make a public statement renouncing General Ríos Montt’s past actions, and those of his wife

Some voters in Weller’s district have also asked that he step down from his seat on the International Relations Committee, because of his marriage to a foreign legislator. His Committee seat requires that he oversee all of the Americas, including Guatemala.

Here is another dandy, this time from the great state of…

A third-grade teacher at a Muslim school who was the last man charged as a member of the “Virginia jihad network” was sentenced to 15 years in prison yesterday after proclaiming his innocence in a tearful and angry statement to the court.
