Democrat Congresswoman: Obama Health Care Plan Will Destroy Private Health Care Industry

Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) is saying that Obama’s health care plans will destroy the private health care industry. And of course they will. That’s the point. Destroy the private sector and make everyone dependent on the government.
It’s just that it usually isn’t good for liberals to just come right out and say stuff like that.

For the record, this is the same woman who called the tea parties “despicable and shameful.”
Now, maybe some of you are thinking that it would be ok for the government to run health care. After all, you wouldn’t have to pay for insurance any more right?
Well nationalized health care would cost us more than just tax dollars (which we can ill-afford to pay). It would cost us our freedom. The Obama administration is already talking about rationing health care, which means some bureaucrat deciding when and where and how much health care you’ll get. In the “stimulus” bill Obama already signed into law he created a bureaucracy that will not only collect all of our medical records in one central repository, but will also allow bureaucrats to monitor them to ensure that the care we get is government approved.
And how long, once the government is in charge of our health care, will people who live non-government approved lifestyles (like those who smoke or who are fat) see their health care rationed more than everyone else? For the sake of the greater good?
We like to call ourselves a free country. It’s worth remembering that with freedom comes responsibility. Being free means taking care of yourself. If you refuse to take care of yourself, and invite the government in to do it, then you give up your freedom.
It’s as simple as that.

Beware the Bursting of the Health Care Bubble. Health Care in the USA uses /consumes some 17% of the Domestic National Product, something like $ 2.6 Trillion per year. Its growth has been at 2-5 X the rate of inflation almost every year for 30 years. Many high-income executives in health care, say, “So what”? “We earned our income”. The problem is that much of the $2.6 Trillion does not provide the medical value needed by our people. At least $400 BIllion annually is spent on unnecessary administration, competitive marketing and advertising, lobbying, large incomes, including bonuses, for CEOs and executive staff who run for-profit organizations (and many not-for-profits ) plus profits for shareholders. http://pfx.me/B4

When the govt starts interfering in a market, it inevitably dominates it, like the education market. Govt enterprise leads to monopoly govt control.
Look at the auto and banking markets.

Imagine a health industry run like the DMV.

    we are screwed.

  • Doug

As a doctor, I am ashamed that so many of my colleagues are in favor of this kind of system, knowing full well that it is a failure in every country save those with completely uniform populations. The question is WHAT CAN BE DONE at this point with the Obaminator at the helm, Pelosi in the engine room, and now another supreme court seat about to go to the left? It is truly the antithesis of morality and hope.

A lot of Americans travel abroad for medical reasons.Medical Tourism

Most of those reasons are costs. And if you look at the website, all the places it offers are third world countries with little, if any, health regulation. None are in socialized countries. The massive reduction in price is simple: less bs, less costs. Most American insurance is even willing to pick up the tab (which, in and of itself, says that the problem with American health insurance isn’t the insurance companies).

    http://www.business-in-asia.com/asia/medical_tourism.html

Of course, there are drawbacks to this too. Such as, you have reduced quality care (though the extent varies), and you have no legal recourse if something goes wrong.

The other problem is that in countries with medical tourism, they drain resources from the community. This is most true in Cuba, where the Castros spend much of their nations health care money on nice hospitals to treat foreigners, while at the local hospitals, the locals have to bring their own sheets.

Why do liberals think that the government can run anything better than private industry? Don’t the inefficiencies and injustices of bureaus like the DMV, IRS, and EPA get through their thick skulls? Are they too stupid to research what’s happened (and is happening) in the UK and Canada, where medical services that are routine here are denied on a regular basis by faceless bureaucrats? Why do they think that people from nations around the world come to the USA for medical services?

The healthcare bubble, like all bubbles, is a result of govt market-rigging. Govt interference in healthcare has raised prices to the level where insurance, with its cost shifting from those who don’t use it to those who do, has become necessary for anyone to afford healthcare at all. Healthcare is too expensive for one reason: the added costs of govt interference with market forces.

The private market for healthcare will still exist. If you want to fly first class you can always pay for it. Universal coverage will just mean everyone is covered and it won’ be such a burden to employers. You should love that.

Uneducated little dino continues to poop his diapers with his ignorance of how economics works. Obama wants to outlaw the free market in everything, since the prosperity generated by the free enterprise economic system converts ignorant lefties into knowledgeable conservatives.

That is, you oppose them until you find yourselves in a tight spot.

Wrong again, moron! After the greedy govt has confiscated our money, we want what we have already paid for.
The govt only has what money it takes from the achievers. We pay for everything.

When does he? I could not convince the dogmatic jerkoff that Obama actually won the popular election by 6%. What does this mean? He fails at 1st grade math and logic.

But that’s OK. Trainable individuals like robert108 are valued by those who love him (if any). Even though he will never be a fully capable member of society we must honor him as such, otherwise we risk dehumanizing him.

Little ribby: His statements about redistributing wealth, which would be “better for everybody”, and “returning wealth to its ‘rightful owners’”; both statements by your Lord Obama.
    Are you really that stupid?
I notice you whiffed on my statement that when Americans get wealthier by the operation of the free enterprise economic system, they tend to become more conservative, since they now have “skin in the game”. With his commie background and constant supply of taxpayer money to buy his wagyu steak and his wife’s $540 dollar sneakers, he isn’t subject to the economic insanity he wants to mandate for the rest of us.

You market cultists don’t get it.

The private market for healthcare will still exist. If you want to fly first class you can always pay for it. Universal coverage will just mean everyone is covered and it won’ be such a burden to employers. You should love that.

People like you fought Medicare, too. You fight any effort to progress towards collective goals and the efficiencies gained by big programs.

That is, you oppose them until you find yourselves in a tight spot. An acquaitance, a republican who was against universal, single payer, has a daughter with a very rare condition. The care is expensive and costing him a lot. Guess what? He’s now all for govt supported health care. Who’d a thunk it?

Some of your comments were predictably ignorance-filled. You people just spew shit and think you know what you’re talking about. Who said the DMV is inefficient? In Oregon it takes me about an hour to get my car emissions tested and new plates. Getting my license renewed took about 45 minutes.

How many of you have dealt with the EPA that you think it’s inefficient? It’s not.

There’s absolutely no truth to the tired old belief that the private sector is this well-oiled machine superior to the public sector.

the one risky behavior they will not regulate ever is sex.

    Everything else is fair game.

  • SigFan

Several years ago my wife was flying over to the UK for business. Due to scarring of one of the valves in her heart caused by scarlet fever as a child, she periodically suffers from a hugely accelerated heartbeat. Most often, when this happens, after a few minutes it comes back down on it’s own, but occasionally she needs medication to get it under control. This time, it did not self-regulate, so when they landed at Gatwick they had her stay on the plane for an extra hour before finally deciding that she should move to a bench in the gate area. After another 45 minutes, they decided they better take her to the hospital. Another 45 minutes later, an ambulance came and took her to the local hospital, where she was left to wait in the patient lounge for another hour. They finally took her into an examining room, found out what the problem was and told her there was nothing they could do for her, since they didn’t have the appropriate medication to give her, but she was welcome to stay there until it self-regulated or she died, whichever came first. Fortunately, it did come back down after another hour and she was able to walk, rather shakily, to the nurses station to tell them she was ready to leave. She asked how she should pay for their “services” and was told that they didn’t know how to accept payment because it was the UK NHS. They told her to slip out the back door and go across the street to a pub and call a cab and no one would be the wiser.

This is an absolutely true story, and if we allow this crap that Obama is trying to foist on us to happen, it will happen here. So, my question to anyone who thinks nationalized medicine is a good thing is this, Do you want this kind of treatment for you or your loved ones?

  • SigFan

He wants the illegals, more people dependent on government equals more votes. McCain would have done the same thing.

  • http://suitepotato.blogspot.com/ sayanything-4808

What’s surprising about it? We’ve seen gigantic impositions of statism and socialism over and over and somehow we barely survive due to organic societal response and the pressure valve of democratic turnover of politicians and the courts legislating from the bench. People pay scant notice to all the mechanisms and think it can’t be that bad.

You can only retard the system with so much crap before the mechanisms themselves are so clogged that the system fails.

We conservatives never want to see a day when that happens, quite the opposite, but there’s a goodly number of socialist retards willing to go around as puppets to tell the people it’s all the fault of those opposing socialism and if we all just cooperated it would just work.

That’s the whole fucking point. Socialism is not something natural human interest agrees with. We don’t cooperate because it is antithetical to our interests as individuals, as members of families nuclear and extended, as citizens of a free society, etc. Yet the left thinks that they are better than us and our refusal to cooperate makes us evil and stupid for not bowing to their self-believed brilliance.
