Democrat Congress Has Lowest Approval Rating Of All Time

In the Gallup poll, anyway:

If the President feels bad about the nation’s opinion of him—a meager 25% of those surveyed in a June Gallup poll approve of Bush’s performance—all he needs to do is pick up that same poll and keep reading. According to Gallup, just 14% of people express confidence inthe current Congress. That’s the lowest measure in the 34 years Gallup has been tracking government institutions.

I’m sure this will get just as much media attention as Bush’s low approval numbers get.

And yes, nobody likes polls.  Everybody questions their accuracy and methodology (including myself).  But when the results are this lopsided?  Can’t ignore ‘em.

Now liberals like to shrug these numbers off as little more than an indication that Americans are frustrated with the Democrats not being able to stop the war, advance a liberal agenda.  I maintain that these numbers prove that America never wanted a Democrat Congress in the first place, and that the only reason the Democrats got the majority in Congress is because Republicans abandoned the limited/transparent government ideals that got them elected in the first place.

Comments

14%.  Well.  Does anyone here think that you will hear this mentioned numerous times on the 6 ‘o clock news tonight?  or on the various newspapers?
Nay.

I think Parliament had more better numbers in 1776.

[W]hat you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Man are you going to be ticked when the Democrats lose the majority in 2008.

I think I remember it well you saying the same thing last year pretty regularly until election day.  Nothing much has changed.

R’s& D’s will be talking withdrawal
in the 08 electoral race.
Neither will be able to accomplish withdrawal any time soon. The logistics of redeploying hundreds of thousands, their weapons and equipment is daunting.
The American military is not going to leave Iraq like Bonaparte fleeing Russia.

Who would defend the Heritage foundation kids in the Embassy and the Iraqi gov’t in the Green Zone?
There will be talk of imminent stabilization, peace with honor, and no talk of 50 and 10 year commitments.

Nothing much has changed.

Except that now the Democrat majority has approval ratings lower than the Republican-led Congress.

That’s changed now, hasn’t it puzzled?

In general voters dislike congress
( an amorphous blob)
but like their representatives.

They dislike congress because it is not making progress in issues the voters consider important.
War, health care ,Soc Sec,education.

The R’s can’t resell policies of their 6 years in power.
They could not sell them then.
Change is comming.

WOOF on July 7, 2007 at 08:24 am

Yeah, well the war is still all about the Republicans.  That’s why the later it gets in the year, the more Rs will call for withdrawal just like Domenici is doing.

And the Ds can point to how many times they have tried to end the war and the republicans keep thwarting votes.  Just look at today’s WaPo and how the indpendents are now moving in large numbers and how Virginia may vote democratic in the next election.  I think that John Warner will not seek reelection and Mark Warner will seek his seat.  You heard it here first.

Democrat Congress approval: 14%.

And note, once again, that Domenici is not calling for immediate withdrawal.  Just a plan that will allow us to win and then withdraw.

Another poll says that 45% of Americans want Bush impeached.

Anyone else noticed that it’s either for the Democrats or for the Republicans and no longer for the country.

It’s not about who is the best for the job. It’s about who you can get elected.

I notice you don’t give a citation for that poll. Is that 45% of the people that live in your Mom’s basement?

Well, many of those who don’t approve of Congress are probably Democrats like me who don’t believe that the Democrats that we just elected have gone far enough in reigning in King George.  I for one “dissaprove” of Congress, but I am certainly not going to vote for a Republican who actually supports Bush’s policies.  I personally “dissaprove” of Congress because they refuse to their constitutional duty by impeaching a President who he lied us into a war (i.e. the Downing Street Memo, relying on yellow cake documents known at the time to be forged, falsely claiming or at least implying that Saddam had a role in 9/11) and refuses to abide by the rule of law (i.e. illegally wiretapping U.S. citizens, holding U.S. citizens for years like Jose Padilla without charges or any sort of legal due process, signing laws and then issuing signing statements that the law doesn’t really mean what it says, refusing to enforce validly enacted environmental protection laws, ect. ect.).

But even though I personally “disapprove” of the Democratic Congress, they are still the lesser of two evils from my perspective, and as such I will be voting for Democrats in the 2008 election.

"Another” poll says 115% of Americans wish Bush could serve two more terms. I don’t remember where I saw it. It was another poll…
75% said they wished they could impeach Clinton again...Really too bad I can’t remember where I saw this poll!

Proof: I also saw that Poll about 115% of all Americans want Bush to be able to serve two more full terms; but doggone it, I can’t remember where I saw it though!

Percentage of Americans who believe
Impeachment the Ben & Jerry’s Flavor of the month?

Thirty-nine percent (39%) of Americans now believe that President Bush should be impeached and removed from office. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 49% disagree while 12% are not sure.

Those figures reflect a slight increase in support for impeachment over the past year-and-a-half.

Rasmussen Reports

The survey by the American Research Group found that 45 percent support the US House of Representatives beginning impeachment proceedings against Bush, with 46 percent opposed, and a 54-40 split in favor when it comes to Cheney.

Democratic leaders appear unlikely to pursue such a course.

The Rasmussen Report tells the story.  The strong plurality of Americans don’t support impeachment.

The American whatever group’s polls is dumb, because the American whatever group is a left-wing activist group.

So, nice try Poodle.  Democrats are still getting booted in 2008.

WOOF fantasizes:

People don’t like Bush and they don’t like congress cause they won’t reign him in.

300 investigations in 100 days, and that isn’t “reigning in Bush.” Hahahahaha.

I don’t like this congress because they are more interested in self-aggrandizing than in accomplishing anything, and what little they actually propose to do, like the immigration reform and defunding the war are really terrible ideas… I’d suggest somewhere around 60% of the population would agree with this statement in one form or another.  I think you are right that some of you ultralefts don’t think they’ve done enough, even though they are your whores and generally are ignoring what the plurality of Americans want… So you’re probably right on that…

The poll actually reads at a 24% approval rating, which is still above where it was at in October of last year.  And if you look at Independent voters, their approval rating is higher for this congress than the last do-nothing congress.

Frank Newport’s analysis of the poll only reported numbers where people responded with an answer of “quite a lot” or “great deal”, which is a subset of the potential positive responses.

Gallup, you know you’ve got a problem when you are defending a 24% approval rating as a “good thing”!  I’m just sayin’…

Carrick on July 8, 2007 at 09:48 am

I tend to trust Rasmussen more, because they do a more careful job of balancing the demographics…

Here’s a recent poll from them 19% think congress is doing a good or great job, that’s with only 3% thinking they’re doing a great job.  In the mean time, Rasmussen puts Bush’s approval at 38%...

Congress’ approval rating is 24%, NOT 14%, folks.  http://galluppoll.com/content/?ci=27937 Rob didn’t cite his original source for the 14% but he or she made a significant typo.

Anon:

Congress’ approval rating is 24%, NOT 14%, folks.

Zogby Poll:

A Zogby telephone poll released Thursday showed approval of Congress “continues to plummet” and now sits at just 14 percent. Eighty-three percent of respondents gave Congress negative marks. The polling organization credited the low numbers to the “acrimonious scrimmage over immigration reform” in June.

I think ye is wrong there, me bucko.

In the meantime

Bush’s job approval ratings in Zogby polls have been in the low and mid-30s since October 2006. This week it stood at 34 percent.
