Democrat Candidates Banding Together To Force Defeat In Iraq
Hey, we all want the war in Iraq to end, its just that some of us want to accomplish what we set out to do first.
They aren’t in office yet, but a group of 25 (and growing) Democratic House and Senate candidates are promoting their detailed plan for withdrawing from Iraq, hoping the effort will attract enough voters frustrated with a conflict now entering its sixth year.
The 36-page plan calls for removing military forces from Iraq and focusing on diplomatic and humanitarian concerns.
I actually think it’d be interesting for these Democrats to explain to us how, exactly, we’d focus on diplomatic and humanitarian concerns without the military there to a) protect the diplomats and humanitarians and b) keeping the country secure enough so that diplomatic and humanitarian programs can actually, you know, work.
The reality is that these Democrats could probably not care less about what happens in Iraq once our troops are pulled out. What probably would happen is wholesale slaughter and bloodshed as various factions (al Qaeda, Iran, etc.) tried to topple the vulnerable Iraqi government and replace it with some sort of theological dictatorship or hegemony. But again, the Democrats don’t care about that.
All they care about is the “end the war” stuff, with the “humanitarian” and “diplomatic” stuff tossed in as an afterthought aimed at stemming criticism over abandoning the mission.
