Democrat Attempts To “Trim” Obama Budget Are Meaningless

Little more than symbolism, really, for certain Democrats who need to appear fiscally responsible even as Obama spends us down to ever-deeper levels of government debt.
Prime example of one of these Democrats would be Senator Kent Conrad, a self-appointed “budget hawk’ and chairman of the Senate Budget Committee.

If Congress, in its infinite wisdom, should ever decide to create a federal Department of Smoke and Mirrors, we know just who should be in charge: Either Rep. John M. Spratt Jr. of South Carolina or Sen. Kent Conrad of North Dakota. …
Each claims to be outraged about the large deficits envisioned in President Barack Obama’s proposed budget. Each has offered an alternative aimed at saving hundreds of billions of dollars — which sounds impressive until you realize that the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office says the president’s plan would run a $9.3 trillion deficit over the next decade.

Cutting a few hundred billion out of a budget that’s closing in on creating $10 trillion in deficits over the next decade is like bailing out a swimming pool with a 5 gallon bucket.
I don’t think Americans should fall for the symbolism Democrats are trying to cover their asses with.

I don’t think Americans should fall for the symbolism Democrats are trying to cover their asses with.

But a large percentage of them will – because they just won’t accept that the One and the Democratic Party could be on the wrong track. By recognizing that they (the government) are making some drastic errors in judgement and governance, they would be admitting that they (the people) were wrong by extension. Most people find it easier to believe a lie as long as it validates their intial premise, or somehow reinforces their feeling of being right. This also gives guys like Conrad a crutch to lean on when called to the carpet for their profligacy – “I tried as hard as I could to get them to reduce the budget, but all I could get was a 1-2% reduction.” Somehow that makes them one of the good guys in people’s eyes.

The oldest trick in the book is convincing ignorant people they will get free stuff for their brain dead support. In fact, there are few like that on the blog here.

Yeah and they all voted for NOBAMA.

Funny, how we’re halfway into the fiscal year and there’s no constant barrage of what the deficit is so far from the media.

    billtb,

I would have to agree with you. Most people in this country are far more concerned with “one upping” their neighbor and putting on a false show of wealth that they are only concerned with how to maintain it.

Along comes an empty suit who says he can guarantee that lifestyle if they just bend over and give him more government power. Those people readily bent over and in some cases fought to see who could be the first.

The catch on this whole thing though is sooner or later they are going to run out of tax base to give away and we will have to pay the pieper for these years of fiscal irresponsibility. My hope is that these people stop sipping Brawndo and wake up and realize the old adage:

“You can’t get something for nothing.”

    Wonder why that is.

    Don’t understand that ideology.

And of course the Democrat attempt to “trim” the budget is rdiculous. You raise the bidget by a trillion dollars and then cut it by a couple of hundred billion. By my estimate thats still raising the budget by $700-$800 billion dollars.
