Democrat Convention Video: “Government Is The Only Thing We All Belong To”
You’ve got to be kidding me.
I’ve never felt like I “belong to” the government. I am an independent, individual citizen who supports a republican form of government because I oppose anarchy. I think an orderly society requires laws protecting property and individual, as well as mechanisms for enforcing those laws and contracts.
What I don’t support is a government that exists “to do good.” That is not the government’s role. The government is the referee. “The purpose of…government is never to do good, but simply to refrain from doing evil,” wrote Robert Heinlein, and that’s something I’ve always believed in.
