Democrat Chairwoman: Just Because Obamacare Mandate Is Administered By The IRS Doesn’t Mean It’s A Tax

The Obamacare tax penalty for not buying health insurance may be administered by the IRS, and it may be assessed on your tax return, and the Supreme Court itself may have upheld the constitutionality of the mandate only because it is a tax, but according to DNC Chairwoman Deborah Wasserman-Schultz that’s all just a matter of administrative convenience.

“This is a penalty that will be assessed on the tax return if you choose to roll the dice and make us all pay for your being irresponsible and increase all of our health care costs,” said Wasserman-Schultz on CNN. ““We’re not going to tolerate that any more in America. You have to be responsible and you have to pay a penalty if you choose not to be.”

So we’re passing sweeping policy changes that impact every single adult American in the country to address the small minority of Americans who don’t purchase health insurance.

That…makes no sense at all.

In related news, Wasserman-Schultz would also like you to know that Florida Governor Rick Scott (who joined three other governors in refusing to implement Obamacare’s health care exchanges or Medicaid expansion) is a “spoiled brat.”

“He insisted that the law was unconstitutional, and the Supreme Court has ruled. The matter should be settled,” she said.

I’m sure Democrats would like the matter to be settled. I’m sure they’d love to stop talking about this unpopular boondoggle that they’re all now stuck defending through the rest of the election cycle, but the debate is far from over.
