Democrat Booed Over Contraceptive Mandate In New York

So far the spin from Democrats on President Obama’s mandate for contraception coverage has been that the mandate is a women’s health issue. The left would no doubt like the public at large to believe that Republican opposition isn’t so much about protecting individual rights as it is a war on women.
Is that spin getting any traction? Anecdotally, the fact that a Democrat is getting booed for her support of the mandate in New York indicates that perhaps people understand that this is about being free to choose (via Hot Air):
“We’re not gonna agree on this one. I’m gonna tell you that I will stand for our religious freedoms. But I don’t see a conflict here,” says Rep. Kathy Hochul in response to critics. “Now that there’s been an accommodation that says religious institutions do not have to provide these services. So we’re just going to have to disagree on that.”
The problem is that the “accommodation” President Obama announced still requires that insurance companies provide contraceptive/abortion poll coverage, and still requires that Catholics and Catholic organizations buy that coverage.
There is no protection for religious or economic freedom in that accommodation. Nor has there ever been any concern for that sort of freedom in Obamacare. That law has always been about the government designing our health insurance policies for us and then requiring that we purchase them.
