DeKrey May Have Problems With Hunters

North Dakota State Rep. Duane DeKrey (R - Pettibone) may have a "chink in the armor" as he campaigns for the NDGOP nomination to run for ND's seat in the house against current Rep. Earl Pomeroy.

According to this political scorecard put out by North Dakota Outdoors Rep. Duane DeKrey got an "F" for his votes on legislation concerning hunting and outdoor sports.

Given that North Dakota has a vast number of citizens who are very active in the outdoors with activities like hunting and fishing this low-score for DeKrey could come back to haunt him. It will be interesting to see how he handles it.

I’ll say it.

DeKrey is a farmer and a land owner. Some hunting groups often snub farmers and landowners rights when it comes to shooting some animal.  I am a big supporter of hunting and gun ownership, but virtually above all else I support a landowner.

I know of some hunters have no respect for posted land and relatives of mine have been shot at (not purposely) because people disregarded posted signs.

For purposes of evaluating the legislators, we used only those votes for which we sent an etree notice.

I subscribed to the Etree emails and wasn’t impressed.  They told people to contact their congresscritters one way on a bill with out ever explaining their views.  It was like everyone should just shut up take their word for it.

It completely skews the ratings they give politicians.

I have to agree Mr. Miller above concerning landowners.  I used to farm and there used to be very few no hunting signs anywhere.  That has changed as hunters have screwed themselves over - littering, poaching, violating game laws, tearing up muddy roads, etc.  Some of the most tightly posted land is postedby hunters so they can hunt other people’s land while not allowing anyone on their land, but that’s another thread.

I am a hunter and strong believer in the 2nd amendment.
