Defending The Feminization Of Boys

Some attorney named Jennifer Brandt was on Fox News today defending the feminization of American boys.

Now, personally, I don’t usually get all that upset about stuff like this.  I grew up in a relatively poor family with four older sisters, so I spent a lot of my younger years playing with the toys they grew out of.  That meant a lot of Barbies and doll houses.  I would have preferred GI Joes and matchbox cars, but you play with the hand you’re dealt right?

But there comes a point where this stuff goes overboard.  It often seems like society doesn’t want little boys to be little boys any more.  In schools we take away boy-friendly things like recess and gym class, and then when those boys get fidgety in class from all the energy they haven’t burned off we send them to counselors and load them up with drugs like Ritalin.  Even the occasional playground squabble or fist fight now often prompts a call to law enforcement from school administrators even at the grade school level.

“Boys will be boys” is a banned phrase now, and I don’t think that’s anything we should be proud of.  Certainly I don’t think we need to go back to a time where boys got preferential treatment, but there’s nothing wrong with recognizing that boys are different from girls in certain fundamental ways that go beyond mere physical differences.  It’s not merely a matter of letting boys be boys, but rather that boys need to be boys.

The answer to violence by men or women is to capture immediately and give them their consequences every time.  People who become involved with gangs for the most part have been brought up in welfare conditions.

The feminization of boys is REAL and serious.

For example, all schools from ages 8-18 are not geared toward their nature and that is why boys do badly in school.  Most boys are kinethetic learners, not docile and obedient like the majority of girls at that age who thrive with verbal interaction.

As you may have noticed, girls run the academic world up to age 18, but when you get out into the real world, most leaders are men.

Winston Churchill once said on the education of the young,
“I would make them good at a manual labor, with plenty of music and poetry in their rest periods.  Only when they really have a desire to learn, would I permit them to go to a University.”

I confess I only listened to about half that clip - that was all I could stomach as both parties are idiots.  Indeed, Brandt’s arguments are moronic, but Rudov’s aren’t much better.  While I agree with his overall argument about the treatment of boys in society, this line of Hello Kitty products is not an institutionalized setting in which boys are forced to behave like girls - they are market items which parents can choose to buy, or not, and children can choose to play with, or not.

I just can’t imagine any boy playing with or wearing Hello Kitty products without a firm commitment to them, given the razzing they will get from other boys.  Even leaving that aside, what child plays with toys they truly don’t like?  I didn’t, my kids didn’t (except when playing with them in unintended ways, such as crashing the Barbie Dream Car in a horrible wreck, or marrying GI Joe to Barbie...you get the idea) and boys given Hello Kitty toys won’t either.

But, my youngest son is about to turn 19 so perhaps things have changed for younger boys more than I realize.

Yup Gents,

it’s worse than that.  I just kinda went through a time warp, cleaning out our attic.  I found a trove of still-pristine 1/72nd scale models, still unopened, of WWII tanks and fighters.  The price tags indicated them at around $1.00 each.

Nowadays you can’t touch them for anywhere near the same price, much less even find them on the store shelves.

Think these gals and their ilk had anything to do with it?

Certainly I don’t think we need to go back to a time where boys got preferential treatment…

What time was that?  Society has always asked more of boys and men, but at least we got appreciated for it.  Now, we are told that our masculinity is criminal.  Nice.
