Day Six: Still No North Dakota Media Mention Of The Federal Investigation Into Kent Conrad

We’re up to Day 6 now, folks, and still there’s been no mention in the ND media of the Countrywide insider whose testimony to federal investigators directly contradicts Senator Kent Conrad’s claims about not having any idea that he was getting favorable treatment from his lender.  Here’s the story again in case you need to catch up.

Yesterday some apologists for the state media suggested that the ND media doesn’t have the resources to cover a national story like this.  I think that’s bogus.  North Dakota only has two Senators in Washington DC, and one of them is hip-deep in scandal right now.

It doesn’t take a whole lot of journalistic resources to observe what’s going on, and then mention it in a local article or op/ed.

The North Dakota media is doing the people of North Dakota a grave disservice.

Just the fact there is a federal investigation makes it a story.

So asking you to be more specific and trying to explain the realities of the news business is being an apologist?

I agree with you. The North Dakota newspapers should note the apparent investigation of Conrad. But if Matt von Pinnon doesn’t, he’s either stupid or covering up?

You can see why people give up on blogs the same way they give up on the MSM—insult replaces argument.

And stop bitching and send your FOIA letters today.

Don’t expect to see anything from them.  Conrad will have to be convicted, removed from the Senate and show up at the Fargo Airport.  Then the media will rush out to say, “hey, Kent, home for a vacation”?

Okay, he’s apparently been caught with his fingers in the cookie jar and there is a federal investigation into the affair. He maintains however, that he was unaware of the preferential treatment he received and has since given all the savings to charity.
Surely you would like a proper investigation to find him guilty of impropriety, rather than a witch-hunt or lynch mob to judge him without all the evidence being examined?

Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric.

Making excuses for why the journalists in this state aren’t doing their jobs is, absolutely, being an apologist.

And I’m being pretty specific here.  I’m not asking a lot. I’d like them to at least, you know, mention what’s going on here.  Not everyone in the state watches MSNBC.

In Connecticut, Chris Dodd’s involvement in this has been getting daily coverage.  But here in ND we can’t even muster an article?  Or an editorial?

Give me a break.

I’d say it’s either covering up or being out of touch, but aside from that what other options are there?  You cannot tell me he doesn’t know what’s going on.  And he certainly knows now.  I posted about him yesterday, and while I know he’s a reader I also emailed him that link just to be sure he got it.

You can see why people give up on blogs the same way they give up on the MSM—insult replaces argument.

Disagreeing with you is not an insult, Pom.  I really don’t know why you’re upset with me about this.  I just want someone in the state media to do their job.

Is that really asking too much?  Don’t shoot the messenger, pal.

And stop bitching and send your FOIA letters today.

What FOIA letters do I need to send?  The DoJ is investigating.  The Countrywide insider has already contradicted Conrad’s assertions.  I just want the media to mention that.

If it makes you happy, I’ll call Conrad’s office and ask for a comment, but you know damn well they’re not going to talk to me.  You’ll say it’s because I’m a jerk or something, but really it’s because he doesn’t want to talk to someone who is interested in more than softball press release stuff.

Surely you would like a proper investigation to find him guilty of impropriety, rather than a witch-hunt or lynch mob to judge him without all the evidence being examined?

Pay attention: I want the ND state media to report on the on-going federal investigation, including the report of one Countrywide insider that it was his job to make sure Conrad knew he was getting special treatment.

I’m a North Dakota resident and the lack of media coverage of this issue is disgraceful. There has been virtually no in-state in-depth coverage of Conrad’s involvement in this. Unfortunately in this state full of farmers, as long as Conrad (and his fellow Dem Senator Dorgan and our wimpy Dem congressman Pomeroy),keeps bringing home the farm subsidy pork, this guy is unlikely to be grilled by the in-state press. I am in the process of writing a letter to the editor of our local paper about why no serious investigation of this is being done in the state.
