Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don’t
When the President started his vacation a few weeks ago he was lambasted by leftist critics for spending too much time away from his work. Of course, reasonable observers noted that modern Presidents are never truly away from their work and that Bush has still received daily briefings from his staff on security and other matters and has spent plenty of time in the public eye pushing his initiatives. Which is, you know, his job.
But yesterday the President felt that, in light of the disaster in New Orleans, he should be back in the country's seat of power. To most of us that's a good decision, but to Bush's leftist critics (who are never satisfied with anything he does even when it is the right decision) his return from vacation means that things were "getting too hot" down in Crawford.
Talk about petty. Next thing you know they'll be criticizing the President for using too much gas at the taxpayer's expense when he travels back to Washington.
Oh, wait...
