Here’s a great video from Pajamas Media’s Alfonzo Rachel about the victimhood mentality (with apologies to the Geto Boys):

The point about blacks, or any minority for that matter, being accused of being race traitors or “Uncle Toms” because of their daring to wander away from the dogma of the liberal victim plantation is well made. We see that nonsense all the time, and the disservice the victim mentality is doing to minorities is obvious to any honest observer of places like inner city housing projects or Indian reservations.
But the victim mentality goes far beyond minorities these days. Liberals seek to turn us all into victims.
Take on a loan you can’t pay back? You’re a victim. Don’t want to pay your own way through college? You’re a victim. Can’t farm without subsidies? You’re a victim. Can’t afford your own health care? You’re a victim.
By turning us all into victims the proponents of big government create an excuse to come to our aid with programs that make us dependent on government. Which means that the goal is less about helping us than controlling us.
An independent, self-sufficient citizenry is the antithesis of big government. Because independent, self-sufficient citizens don’t need much in the way of government. The path to subjugation, the “road to serfdom” as Hayek put it, lays with first convincing us that we are helpless and then using that perceived helplessness to exploit us.

Rob,

No argument with this point… You know my stances. However, the post picture should not be Obama. He’s stated on numerous occasions that his skin color is a non-issue, rebuking many on the left that wanted to label the tea-partiers “racist”.

Now, I don’t trust BO as far as I could throw him, but a better picture would have been Jessie or Al, or any member of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Or maybe members of the Congressional White Caucus… I’ll give you the names of that group once I find the list… I know it’s here somewhere…

Two sides of the coin though. In one instance the victims (and their victim pimps) demand that others rescue them.

The other is people deciding other people need rescuing for their own good whether they want it or not.

The difference is we have better arguments backed up by history, sociology, psychology and experience. Liberals run entirely on an insecure need not to be listened to by their own like-minded people, but to force their imagined supremacy on others. What they do in the forcing of it is not relevant and never mattered to them. One is for well laid out reasons made in proper argument and debate, the other is simply going to be done whether you like it or not and there’s no need to back it up because it wasn’t about the problem at hand, but the people handing out the (non) solution.

Unfortunately, we see this somewhat on the right too. With certain issues like homosexual sex, prescription drugs, etc…its that the person cannot be trusted to make decisions for themselves, and we must step in to protect them.
