Daily Kos: Conrad Is Worse Than Dodd On Countrywide

When the liberals at Daily Kos are throwing you under the bus maybe it’s time to admit there’s a problem:

I didn’t get a single e-mail defending Kent Conrad, who, when he sought a loan from Countrywide, had his friend Jim Johnson arrange a phone call with Angelo Mozilo, the company’s CEO. Conrad says he doesn’t think there is anything unusual about calling a mortgage giant’s CEO to get a loan. Yeah, right.
Conrad received a one-point discount on a million dollar loan for a vacation home (he has since donated $10,700 to charity to offset the value of the discount) and was given a loan on an eight-unit apartment building even though Countrywide lending rules restricted such loans to four-unit buildings.
It’s possible that the reason why nobody defended Kent Conrad is that Conrad put himself in a worse position…

It’s a little funny that this dislike of Conrad is motivated by the Senator being on the fence about government health care (if he was more in favor of Obama’s health care plans would that make his extra-special VIP loans better?), but this Kos diarist does make a good point.
Conrad called his buddy Jim Johnson to get a hold of Mozilo to get a loan. That is inappropriate behavior for a US Senator, particularly one who is contemporaneously helping to shepherd legislation through Congress worth hundreds of millions of dollars to the company he was trying to get a loan from.
Conrad doesn’t have any excuses. What he did was wrong. He needs to come clean and apologize. Now.

He needs to come clean and apologize. Now.

Apologies don’t cut it. He took a $10,700 favor from Countrywide and turned around and legislated in favor of the mortgage industry.

He needs to resign so that ND can send a Senator free of corruption to the Senate.

As I said before, the ND electorate has a short memory. Conrad is counting on that, and the fact he is not up for election for a few years. Further, thr ND Republican Party will likely nominate yet another sacrificial lamb. So Conrad will probably be in the Senate for the next 40 years. Hell, he’ll probably break Strom Thurmond’s record.

Yep. Guarantee, they will shovel as much pork as possible into this state leading up to all of their elections, so the sheeple of ND will vote for them again….only to gripe about the spending in Washington once they are securely re-election, and the entire cycle starts all over again, when the next election cycle gets close.

Has anyone read the Fargo Forum editorial on their website today? In my opinion, to help divert attention and provide cover for Kent, they ran a puff editorial praising his “centrist” work on the Obummer health care scam. The Forum’s motto should be: Never fear Kent, we got your back.

Guys remember that Conrad and crew are on recess and are back in the state. We cannot let him off the hook. Call his office and findout where he will be holding open meetings. Call your friends, call your neighbors and get them to attend his meetings. Get up and make your voices heard. Ask him if he thinks he is somehow more privileged than his constituents. In an article yesterday he made some statements about how he has been nothing but ethical and he has an impeccable credit record and is in good financial shape. Ask him if he has been so careful with his own finances, why would he be any less diligent with the public’s finances.

Turn up the burners and make him twist like a piece of frying bacon!!

I don’t think this is right that Conrad is getting a pass from the Media in North Dakota.

That $10,700 is all that is known about… for now. I’ll bet $100 that isn’t even half of what Conrad got, once the lower interest rate and payment are factored in.

Get the closing documents, and get his tax returns. Then you’ll have him!

Conrad will skate free …… ND will believe him and forgive him.

They let comb over helmet head bum check Byron get away with 147 bad checks on the house bank and he lied to us about it 3 times.

then we said good job byron now your a senator for life.
