Crossroads: Why Elect A Roadblock Like Heidi Heitkamp?
12:40pm
The folks at Crossroads GPS emailed me the last ad they’re running in the North Dakota Senate race (backed, they tell me, by a $391,000) which describes Heitkamp as a “road block” to Mitt Romney and Republican efforts to undo Obamacare and other policies.
These ads are always invariably called “attacks” by the politicians and the media, and it’s fashionable (to the point of cliché) to denounce “negative campaigning.” But really, what’s inaccurate in this ad?
We can quibble about Medicare spending, but the thrust of the ad is true. Heitkamp has campaigned for months now as though she were a Republican. But she’s not a Republican. She’s a liberal Democrat who would be an asset to the policy agendas of Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
If you’re a North Dakotan who is going to cast your ballot for Mitt Romney (that’s most of you), why would you elect someone like Heidi Heitkamp who would be an obstacle to his administration?
