Counting Chickens Before They Hatch: Obama Already Handing Out Administration Positions

I’m not hopeful about McCain’s chances, but this doesn’t seem the time for Obama to be getting cocky.

WASHINGTON – Barack Obama’s campaign has approached Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanuel about possibly serving as White House chief of staff, officials said Thursday as the marathon presidential race entered its final, frenzied stretch with a Democratic tilt. . . .
The Democrats who described the Obama campaign’s approach to Emanuel spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to be quoted by name. An aide to the congressman, Sarah Feinberg, said in an e-mail that he “has not been contacted to take a job in an administration that does not yet exist. Everyone is focused on Election Day, as they should be.”
Asked about Emanuel after touching down in Colombia, Mo., on Thursday night, Obama said only: “I’m trying to win an election.” Then, referring to campaign manager David Plouffe, he said: “Plouffe is my chief of staff.”
Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton earlier had said: “There’s no news because there’s no job to offer.”

He’s talking about cabinet positions too. I know that with the media fawning all around him he’s probably thinking the election is merely a formality, but still. You’d think he’d wait until he takes office before lining up his staff.
Update: Good grief…

The Obama campaign has opened a new fund-raising front, I’ve learned, creating a nonprofit entity to bankroll Barack Obama’s presidential transition operation, quietly in business for months.
The organization is called the “Obama Transition Project.” The money is being raised from individual donors — no Internet, direct mail or events — with a $5,000 donation cap. Under self-imposed rules, lobbyists will not be allowed to contribute.
Though Obama has raised more than $600 million for his White House bid, legally it is for the election only. The first disclosure report does not have to be filed until Nov. 15.

I guess when your minions (see: ACORN) are out fomenting election fraud across the country you can afford to be this arrogant.

Tommy Daschle has wrapped up the Chief of Staff I thought? Which means it will become a Tommy (un-elected by the people of SD, looking for a re-run), Pelosi, Reid Government. Little Barry isn’t going to stand up to those three.

And planned a $2 million party in Grant Park in Chicago. I wonder who is footing the bill for that one…is it the taxpayers or is it Doodad and the rest of the sketchy campaign contributors?

The morning after the election, the disappointment will begin to settle upon the Obama crowd. Defeat–by now unthinkable to the devotees–will bring heartbreak. Victory will steadily deliver the sobering verdict that our troubles won’t be solved by a leader’s magic.

He already has a coin pressed with him as President.
It’s a touching momento struck by an foreign firm.
Evidently, either the Franklin Mint had an ethics problem with striking a fake coin, or they weren’t asked.

    Check out http://whitehousetransitionproject.org/resources/briefing/PAR2009/johnson.pdf

This is Clay Johnson, President Bush’s longtime aide and friend, head of the 2000-2001 Bush transition team, currently deputy director OMB:

“A presidential transition is very, very intense and full of conflicting emotions and pressures. The candidates naturally want to wait until after the election to prepare to govern, but it is irresponsible to do so……

Every candidate must prepare to govern, starting months before the conventions when each officially becomes the candidate.”

At a recent Congressional hearing (http://governmentmanagement.oversight.house.gov/story.asp?ID=2170), Mr. Johnson and others all agreed that a candidate needs to start planning how/who will be selected for key positions well before the election takes place. Otherwise, there simply isn’t enough time to hit the ground running in January.

So, just maybe it’s not hubris, but doing what is supposed to be done?

That’s nothing, I heard he offered Tony Dean a position a long time ago in return for his support. Of course, Mr. Dean didn’t live long enough for it to come to fruition. It explains why the “Issues” section of the Tony Dean website looks like an Obama press release archive.
