Corey Booker At Dem Convention: “Paying Your Fair Share” Is Patriotic

I’m not sure equating tax hikes with patriotism is going to be a winner for the liberals.

Joe Biden created a lot of grief for the Obama campaign when, in 2008, he suggested that tax hikes were patriotic. But the key to this is context.

I think we need a certain level of government, and I think it is patriotic to pay taxes to maintain that level of government. What’s not patriotic is allowing the spendthrift politicians to whitewash their irresponsible spending habits with “tax the rich” class warfare.

And it is class warfare when “the rich” are already paying a disproportionate amount in taxes. Some 46% of Americans have no federal income tax burden at all, meaning the top 54% of wage earners pay 100% of the income taxes.

A video shown at the Democrat convention said government is the one thing “we all belong too.” I think the government belongs to us, not the other way around, but however we word it shouldn’t we all have a hand in paying for it?

Again, it’s class war to demand huge taxes on one group of people to pay for benefits for another group of relatively untaxed Americans.
