Cop Suspended After Forwarding Email Containing Pictures Of Mugshots Of Obama Supporters

Because the humorless left just won’t tolerate anyone making fun of them or their Messiah.

An Iowa State trooper who was investigated after it was shown that he forwarded an e-mail showing mug shots of people wearing Obama t-shirts has been suspended for 30 days.
Sgt. Rodney Hicok was at home and off-duty when he forwarded the e-mails, said an official with the Iowa Department of Public Safety Bureau and Professional Standards.
The e-mail made disparaging remarks about 15 people in the photos and referred to Obama as having “quite a fan base.”
Hicok was not making a racial statement, the official said, but, rather, a political statement.
In a statement, Hicok said, “I am deeply sorry for my actions … I apologize to anyone this e-mail may have offended, as well as my family, citizens in my community and Iowa taxpayers.”
Hicok ended his statement by saying he guaranteed “nothing like this will ever happen again.”

I posted the collage of pictures in question back in December. It was put together by The Smoking Gun.
When I posted it people accused me of racism because most (but not all) of the people in the mug shots are black. Which seems a bit silly to me. These are real mug shots. It’s cold, hard fact that these people were arrested. It’s also a fact, as evidenced by their wearing Obama apparel, that they’re Obama supporters. Thus, their collective images, are kind of humorous.
It doesn’t necessarily mean anything in general, but you can bet that liberals would get a kick out of a bunch of mugshots of Republicans wearing McCain/Palin shirts. So why can’t the left laugh at themselves a bit?
Because they’re a bunch of humorless twits at times.
If this cop had forwarded a bunch of mugshots of Republicans the ACLU would be championing his case. But he mocked The One and His disciples, so he must pay I guess.

    Whoa!

30 days for forwarding this e-mail? I'd say the guy has a lawsuit on his hands.

Police officers are held to a higher standard, granted, and if he'd said or implied anything racial there would be an issue. BUT – merely being a police officer doesn't remove you from 1st Amendment protection.

This guys needs to appeal – and sue.

Funny how some people still notice the skin tones of the individuals on the mug shot, and that they are the first to decry racism in other people.

Not surprising that Rob has found a way to ridicule the "humorless left" in a story about a guy who uses his state-provided laptop to send mugshots accompanied by this statement:

"I've seen some 'unique individuals' aka S—HEADS wearing these type shirts myself. He [Obama] has quite a fan base. Nice to know that the low-lifes are getting involved in politics now."

Not sure exactly what the trooper meant, but it doesn't seem that funny.

By the way, congrats on completing an entire post without a reference to "Hope n' Change" or "The One." (forget that — seems you couldn't help yourself)

I didn't notice skin color when I originally posted it. I just thought all the Obama t-shirts were funny.

I will bet that if asked the ACLU would at least file an amicus brief on his behalf. They do it all the time. They filed a brief in support of Rush Limbaugh. But they are not going to be his primary lawyer because he already has a lawyer from the union.

I hope this cop gets shot and killed.

He's a racist asshole who overstepped his bounds by emailing migshots that should not have been publicized.

When I worked at a PD we were forbidden from talking about whose mugshots or private info we saw.

Perhaps he'll get taken down by one of the people whose photo he distributed. That would be justice.

Wooten got how many days for what, again? Morr?

The photos were from the public domain – he did not receive them in his official capacity.

I think that the punishment is far too harsh for the infraction. I'm surprised that this is even an issue. Were this about Bush, the media would have ignored it. The fact that someone dare have a laugh at the expense of The One is enough to garner punishment?

As far as the use of a gov't furnished computer, big deal. I can see the fact that he used business email and sent it to business counterparts as a far greater issue.

    Dino,

I hope this cop gets shot and killed.

You just went too far you stupid, ignorant, mouth breather.

Those mugshots didn't originate at his PD. They were an e-mail forward that was making the rounds. Further, mug shots are a matter of public record. How do you think the press gets them, stupid?

So….you hope this guy dies because he forwarded an e-mail?

Right now, Dino, I'm getting up from my computer taking a walk. You overstepped the bounds of taste and common sense, not to mention the bounds of human decency, you piece of shit.

Wallow in your mental filth all you want, but keep comments lie that to yourself, asshole. I don't use profanity often, but this is as good a time as any.

Rob doesn't ban people from this site no matter how outrageous their comments, but I hope he reconsiders that position in your case.

I'm sure the officers at the PD where you worked would like to bring you to room temperature after wishing death on one of their own.

Abuse of power is common among police. They deserve any kind of justice they get when they do it.

    No…
It's because they are assholes all the time.

    Dino said,

"I hope this cop gets shot and killed."

Same to you, Dino. If you think the world would be better served by him being dead, I know it would be much better served given the same happened to you. I only hope that if someone does shoot you, they are wearing a really nifty Obama t-shirt.

So speaks the creature who on his best day would never be man or woman enough to wear the uniform.

It's amazing to me that someone would wish death on this man who would defend their slimy carcass with his life.

    Dross.

I hope someone reports Dino. To say he over stepped the bounds of common decency and respect for the lives of ordinary people is putting it lightly. Creepy!

Well then, since you proclaim to have been a cop, maybe YOU'LL get the justice YOU deserve. Piece of filth…

also, why is he a racist?

Suspended for 30 days over this? What utter B.S. And Border agents going to jail for shooting a known drug dealer in the ass? Funny we can even get anyone to be a cop anymore.

A friend of mine back east sent me the same "mug shot" email about a week after the election. I'm sure the cop wasn't the one who started it's journey through the internet.

Dino is an attention whore. He doesn't really care what he says as long as someone pays attention to him. He's a pathetic POS who deserves to be ignored.

Figures. Rob doesn't like being called out on his BS.

These were mugshots that were already floating around the internet way before he saw them. Hitting the forward button seems like a pretty friggin innocent act. The fact that he could be punished for this shows just how progressively intolerant we've become.
