Contreras Is Working Out

Jose Contreras pitched well and improved his record to 6-2, 5-1 in his eight starting outings. He put up seven innings allowing four hits while striking out four and walking one. He only allowed one run to score with Rocco Baldelli bringing Lugo home on a groundout.

"I feel good now. I feel comfortable on the mound. I'm able to pitch my game. I'm not thinking about any other thing. I'm just focused on the game," Contreras said through an interpreter.

Soriano continued his hard-hitting ways hitting yet another lead-off homer in the 1st inning. This ties him for the MLB record for lead-off homers at 12. In the 2nd inning Matsui scored from first on an Aaron Boone double after walking to get on base.

The team seems to be hitting on all cylinders. They've been getting good innings from their starting staff and the bullpen. Gabe White and Felix Heredia have had a stabling effect on the bullpen that not a lot of people were expecting and Mariano Rivera is a long ways from being washed up. The rest of the team has been getting timely hits. If this trend continues into the playoffs the Yankees are going to be hard to stop.
