Conservative Groups Blast Mike Huckabee

The Club for Growth (which has been out for Huckabee for a while), along with the American Conservative Union and former North Dakotan Dick Armey’s Freedom Works, are sticking it to the Huckster.

I think Armey’s words at the end of that clip ring particularly true.  In order for the GOP to remain viable as a party in America it has to return to its free markets, limited government roots.  Whatever positives Huckabee may have as a candidate, he’s not the person who can take the GOP back to those roots.

I know a lot of people out there really like Huckabee, and were it just one group like Club for Growth agitating against his candidacy it might be overlooked.  But when three major conservative groups, one of them (the ACU) being among the largest and most influential conservative groups in the nation, come out against a Republican candidate it’s time for conservatives to start looking at other options.

Like perhaps Fred Thompson, whose lifetime conservative ranking of 86 from the ACU puts him ahead of John McCain’s 65 and Ron Paul’s 76 (Giuliani and Romney weren’t members of Congress and thus have never been ranked).

Dick Armey’s Freedom Works, the venerable ACU, and the free market, fiscally conservative Club for Growth.  All opposing Mike Huckabee.  Hmmm!

Kind of a shame the phrase “Vast Right Wing Conspiracy” is already taken.

Ooops… my bad!  I forgot Huckabee is still trying to pass himself off as a conservative.

Um… I think the Club for Growth has already endorsed Rudy Guiliani.

I think the Club came out and approved of Rudy’s tax policy.  I don’t think they endorsed his entire candidacy.

They also endorsed Fred’s tax plan, and endorsed something of Romney’s too I think.
