Congressional Budget Office: Democrat Health Care Plan Will Make Care More Expensive
It’s like I’ve been saying all along. The Democrats plan to lower your health care costs by making you pay more in taxes.
Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf warned lawmakers the legislation that he has seen so far would raise costs, not lower them. Elmendorf was asked by Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad, D-N.S., if the bills Congress is considering would “bend the cost curve.” The budget director responded: “The curve is being raised.”
Subsidies to help uninsured people would raise federal health care spending, which is already growing at an unsustainable rate, Elmendorf explained at a hearing. The Medicare and Medicaid cuts that lawmakers have offered to pay for the coverage expansion aren’t big enough to offset the cost trend, particularly in the long term, he said.
Congress is moving forward nonetheless.
Well of course they’re moving forward despite the fact that this bill is a fiscal disaster.
What’s ironic is that liberals have been selling government health care as a way to sell Americans money. They’ve even manipulated the bill so that it, at least at first, only taxes the richest Americans to pay for it. Of course, down the road we’ll all be paying for it. And what we pay in taxes will be far more than what we pay in health care costs right now.
As I’ve said again and again, our current way of doing health care is far from perfect. But what the Democrats want is no fix.
