Congressional Approval Jumps 12 Points To 31%?

I’m…shocked.

The liberals are feeling triumphant about this, and I guess they should be, but for the life of me I can’t figure out why so many people would apparently change their minds about Congress.
I mean, Democrats in Congress said there would be no pork in the stimulus. And yet, the stimulus was chock full of pork. House Democrats voted to allow at least 48 hours of public debate and scrutiny of the stimulus before it was voted into law, and in the lend they allowed just a scant few hours. Democrats have done nothing but arrogantly jam through a pork spending bill on skids greased by fear mongering about an impending economic apocalypse if the crap sandwich didn’t pass, and suddenly Americans like them again? Or, at least, hate them less than they did before?
If anything this is more illustrative of the fickle, apathetic and ill-informed nature of the American electorate than anything else.
Of course, most of the jump in approval came from Democrats who were suddenly happy with the leaders again:

I guess hope ‘n change mania is still alive and well on the left. Just wait until they get the tab for all this spending, though. They may be singing a different tune.

Of course. People hate republicans for what they’ve done.

Hanny, I agree that we can try to be friendly with the other side but we must remember how diificult it is to cozy up to a scorpion. They understand little but aggression and destruction.

Clinton showed us how reaching out to them can result in your hand coming back bloody and mangled.

    Yawn!

Polls are fickle by nature. People on both sides claim that polls are unreliable when they don’t like the results. It takes a lot of work to mine reliable conclusions from a poll — analyzing the questions is the biggest thing. That said, 33% isn’t anything to get excited about.

As for a call for more civility on the boards, surprise! I’m all for it. But I have to say, I only hear calls for policemen to be killed from one side. If you want things to be more civil around here, start with ending that sort of rhetoric. That sort of thing is way beyond the playground insults that get thrown back and forth by both sides.

Since the American people are overwhelmingly against the Obama/Pelosi pork spending bill, the jump in approval is no doubt due to all but three Congressional Republicans voting against it.

The spike in approval ratings is obvious. People didn’t know that democrats were in control from 2006. Now they know democrats are in control so…uh… now they approve of them. AKA, Americans are borderline f***ing stupid.

Americans have no idea that they just gave absolute control of the country to one insane party. But they do know one thing, they approve of it. Wait for the inflation to hit… I can’t wait to hear all the pathetic, fat, cowardly, whining masses screaming like self-entitled little pigs. It isn’t hate, Hannitized… It is a desire for people to come to the end of delusion and insanity and come back to reality…

A statement is a lie if it’s not true… If you make a statement without knowing it’s true, and it isn’t true, you have lied.

    Jimmypop,

Who was President? How many vote majority did dems have? How often did republicans filibuster? Did bush veto anything?

As for civility, no one here is pure. The cop thing was apologized for TWICE, something never done here.

Keep hoping for hate Rob. That is all you got bud.

We are here to be friendly anytime you are willing to be. It’s up to you bud.

Impossible. The data cannot be right. More lies.

The only poll that really counts is the market. And by that measure Barack Obama is already a colossal failure.

    From today’s RCP Poll Averages

    Congressional Job Approval
    RCP Average
    Approve 30.7 Disapprove 64.0 Spread -33.3

    Direction of Country
    RCP Average
Right Direction 30.8 Wrong Track 61.4 Spread -30.6

Interesting the right/wrong direction tracks right along with approve/disapprove numbers. Not sure what to make of that but find it interesting nevertheless.

The only thing people hate worse than bad idea’s is NO idea’s. 31% means people just hate them a bit less. They are still reviled.

when? youve been in control of congress for two years…..

  • Spartacus

The numbers were transposed when the results were published.
