Condi’s Gaff

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s statement in Great Britain about America making “thousands” of tactical mistakes is getting a lot of media attention. Frankly, I think it is a big yawn.
Condi’s point was clear: Nobody is perfect. Americans, and the leaders in the Bush administration, make mistakes like everybody else. Condi is admitting that the Bush administration hasn’t gotten everything perfect. Isn’t that something the left has been demanding for years now? That Bush or Bush administration members admit mistakes?
All this furor surrounding her comment is nonsense. The decision to go into Iraq was the right one, even if it hasn’t been executed perfeclty.

I know this sounds flippant and partisan but the fact is that the Administration doesn’t admit to many mistakes…Rice’s statement is kind of a novelty which makes it newsworthy.

Condi admitted tactical mistakes, not strategic… in applying policies that spanned several years and several continents and hundreds of thousands of individuals…I think the opposite of thousands of tactical mistakes might be infallibility! Think how she would be reviled if she asserted that!

Given the hostility of the media, I probably wouldn’t admit to many mistakes either.

Or did your lack of forthrightness lead to the media’s hostility? If someone repeatedly lied to me, I’m pretty sure I’d be "hostile" too.

Good second paragraph which makes me wonder about the lead sentence in your final paragraph? It’s not a furor but it certainly is news.

It’s one thing to admit mistakes, but ‘thousands’?  Yikes is what I said.  Thousands make me wonder who’s running things in Washington or in Iraq even.  I have faith in our military leaders, I’m a huge Tommy Franks fan, but thousands of mistakes?  No military man would have that under his watch.

Well, I was watching CNN in the hotel room and they brought the story up no less than six times in an hour.  Seemed like a furor to me, but then I don’t watch much television.
