Condenscending Disrespectful University President Says We Must Be Respectful to the American Indians

Of course we’re waiting for President Kelley to show some respect.

The Grand Forks Herald had a story on UND’s transition efforts. OK I get it, the decision is made so they do need to take some steps. But this sticks in my craw.

In the FAQ posted on the nickname web site, Kelley said the transition “will not include any ban on wearing Fighting Sioux clothing at athletic events,” but he asked that fans who do wear or display the nickname and logo to “do so in a manner that is respectful to American Indians.”

When is the worst college president in UND history going to show respect to our neighbors who are fighting to keep the name while Kelley has been disparaging it’s use?

And why did he neglect to travel out to the Standing Rock Tribe to ask them in person if we could continue to use the name as their elders already allowed us? The Lord knows he’s been more than willing to fly around everywhere else in our luxury airplane.

And when is he going to stop being so condescending to the Indian people about knowing what they really want? And while I’m at it how condescending has he been to the people of the Grand Forks and UND community to work against our wishes when we’re the ones paying his salary?

He never should have been hired. The search committee completely failed in doing their job which was providing three qualified candidates. They only recommended this guy and as it turned out he’s been the biggest negative we’ve ever had.
