Columbia Academics Are Crawling To Iran To Apologize To Ahmadinejad

Just what they hope to accomplish with their hand wringing servility to one of the world’s most unstable, iron fisted dictators I can’t imagine:

NEW YORK (MNA) – An academic delegation of Columbia University professors and deans of faculties plans to visit Tehran to officially apologize to Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad.

The delegation plans to express regret for the insulting remarks Columbia University President Lee Bollinger directed at Ahmadinejad on September 24 in his introductory speech, the Mehr News Agency correspondent in New York reported.

Since the incident, the deans and professors from the faculties of history, anthropology, Middle Eastern studies, philosophy, and Islamic studies have criticized Bollinger’s behavior toward Ahmadinejad.

A member of the delegation, who requested anonymity, said the main goal of the visit is to meet the Iranian president and officially apologize to him.

“The delegation has also prepared its itinerary,” he noted.

He went on to say that the delegation also plans to visit Iranian universities in various cities and to hold talks with professors and students, and may even sign memoranda of understanding with some universities. He also said the delegation is interested in visiting seminaries and the shrine city of Qom.

However, Bollinger has warned the delegation that their trip to Iran should be a private visit and should not be undertaken as an official visit endorsed by the university.

Bollinger has so far refused to meet the Mehr News Agency correspondent to explain his disrespectful behavior toward Ahmadinejad when introducing him to the students and professors at Columbia.

How nice.

Isn’t it amazing how these “academics” will fly all the way to Iran to deliver slobbering kisses all over the rear of a dictator that presides over the medieval mutilation and murder of his own people because they’re upset that someone offended him when another set of “academics” won’t apologize to three young men they wrongly condemned - in writing - as rapists before there was ever a trial?

Just what the hell is wrong with these people?

Salutes to Weasel Zippers for this one.

I’m “shocked” that these professors are staying anonymous.  You think it might have something to do with the fact that pulling a stunt like this might not play well in (heavily Jewish) Gotham?

Hopefully someone lets the world know who they are.  At least David Duke was man enough to have his name used with HIS meeting with “Iwannajihad.” Not so these SS-wannabees.

Wonder if they are aware of the Iranian custom of holding pointy headed academics hostage?  If they ever make it back, they can go apolgize to Bush.

I going to go out on a limb here and guess that any women in the delegation will be wearing some type of hijab, if not a chador.  Any homosexuals in the delegation will probably hop back into the closet and any transvestites won’t be wearing anything even remotely effeminate.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if I were wrong though.

What exactly is it about pseudo-intellectual lefties that makes them feel compelled to apologize for the “sins” of others?  Is it some sort of congenital personality disorder?  Is their sense of self-esteem developmentally challenged?

Bill Clinton went to Africa to apologize for slavery, tears, quivering lip, and all (he borrowed those props from his assorted “we’re gonna hunt down the murderers who did this speeches.").  The press was in awe of the audacity of it all… never realizing that they had been artfully diverted from issues of real importance to Clinton’s theater of the absurd.

Not only should the names of each of these fools be plastered all over the internet, the list of smarmy participants ought to be sent FedEx to every Columbia alum and each and every donor to the school’s various endowment funds as well.

While they are there, I hope they get an apology from Amadinejihad for his crimes of hostage taking. Wow! This is the most idiotic numbskull thing to do. What are they thinking?  HELLO people! Wake up. They can’t be serious…

Zsa Zsa on January 8, 2008 at 02:50 pm

These are the people who are educating our children? It was bad enough that they invited the Terrorist scum bag President of Iran to speak. BUT this is absolutely sick! The man should have been arrested as soon as he touched down on US soil. Oh My Gosh!

Academia is anemic. Let them go, then revoke their passports - A ONE WAY TICKET for the apologists.

Liberal academia at it’s finest. Out of one side of their mouths they apologize to a dictator for calling a spade a spade while out of the other side of their mouths shitting all over the President elect of America.

And some liberals act shocked when we question their patriotism. Yeah, right. They know what’s up. Their feigned outrage doesn’t convince.

Perhaps while they are visiting in Iran, the Mullahs will invite the Columbia academics to attend a stoning, or maybe the hanging of one of those homosexuals the Iranians swear do not exist instead.

How can he be an iron fisted dictator when he is not the head of the government.

Hawk on January 8, 2008 at 03:20 pm

He’s listed by his own news service as the President of Iran, Hawk.  Now technically he may not be a dictator; he is, after all, nominally elected, and the real dictators of Iran are said to be the ayatollahs.

But that said, the main point here is that we’ve got so-called academics failing to think through the implications of apologizing for things they didn’t do (well said, Bat One) to a Holocaust denier who happens to hold some of the reins of power.

This story is perfectly explained by two of my favorite CS Lewis quotes.

First on ‘national apologies’:

“The first and fatal charm of national repentance is, therefore, the encouragement it gives us to turn from the bitter task of repenting our own sins to the congenial one of bewailing-but, first, of denouncing-the conduct of others.”

And on excusing great evil:

“I am really trying to become more charitable, and I think I can at least admire charity in another.  But I don’t think Christie’s is of the right brand.  He always seems to select the really evil people to defend: and the next moment you find him being extraordinarily hard on some harmless old man because he is a bore.  I suppose there is such a thing as imagining you have got beyond the stage of hating bad men, when it reality you haven’t got as far as hating them.  Divine charity much be very different from human truckling to bullies, or human indulgence for rotters because they are amusing:  I doubt if Christie knows the difference.”

So why don’t they stay for an extended sabbatical?

Ahmadinejad isn’t even the supreme leader of Iran, it is Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Calling Ahmadinejad a dictator just shows your ignorance.

If you are Alpha Male University President Lee Bollinger and you have been raised and trained by a society and media conglomeration that believes that any criticism of Jews and/or Israel is antisemitic and un-American, you will attack Alpha Male President Mahmud Ahmadinejad who has been raised and trained by a society that believes that Israel is the root of all evil in the Middle East and calls for the country’s extermination.

What does all of this accomplish other than to get the world’s Alpha Males beating their own chests in anger? Is this going to change Iran or make them more resolute in their ideologies?

It was embarrassing that the president of one of our premier centers of higher learning and supposed intelligence behaved worse than the president of a country that, according to the information we’ve been fed, tortures and executes women for being women and gays for being gay.

Perhaps Mahmud was shocked when he learned of the level of hatred that Americans have for his country and he wants us to know what is really happening. It will be interesting to see what our scholars have to say when they get back.

EWE,

You and the Vegitable are precious, so you are. You’re on a first name basis with old Mahmud, and Vegitable is quoting Galbraith--in pink, yet.

Keep up the good work.

Tuna on January 9, 2008 at 07:06 am

Ews, had Bollinger been an alpha male, he would have said “hell no” to the idea of a prominent Holocaust denier even speaking on campus.  His history is extensive, and more or less shows him a patsy for the politically correct left--at least until the news gets out and DONORS start raising Hell about it.

Let’s be serious here; due to the meticulousness of German record-keeping, the Holocaust is probably the best documented atrocity in history.  Ahmadinutjob held a Holocaust denial conference.

Conclusion; he ain’t an alpha male, but rather needs to be put in a well padded room.
