CNN Pushes “Combat Stress” Narrative In Fort Hood Shooting

The liberal media has been panting at the idea that combat stress turns our veterans into time bombs of potential violent activity since, well, for a long time now.  The New York Times and other media outlets pushed it back when Bush was President.  Hollywood has been pushing it since Vietnam with all the movies about crazy veterans.  And now, with Fort Hood on the collective minds of the nation, CNN has trotted it out again.

Notice how King skips right by General Casey’s assertion that this shooting won’t have any operational impact and focuses in on combat stress.  It’s almost like King doesn’t know that Major Hasan was never in combat or something.

And, really, this nonsense about “crazy veterans” really is nonsense.  According to Department of Justice statistics veterans are 82% less likely to commit a violent crime than the average population.  That’s simple truth.

Now don’t get me wrong, I think that maladies like post traumatic stress disorder are very real and that our troops who have been through combat deserve all the help their nation can give them in dealing with that.  But perpetuating this myth that combat somehow makes our veterans emotionally unstable is both insulting and unfair.
