CNN: Obama Wanted Bad Economic Headlines Because That Would Be Best For His Campaign

This is becoming something of a trend, isn’t it?  Obama doesn’t want progress in Iraq until after the election because progress is bad for his campaign.  Now his campaign has apparently been rooting for economic collapse so that The One can blame it all on Bush and McCain, according to this transcript from CNN (courtesy of Newsbusters).

COOPER: Candy, no doubt—very quickly—on the campaign trail, it obviously played a big role today. You anticipate, in the days ahead, issue number one, it’s going to be front and center?

CANDY CROWLEY, CNN: Oh, absolutely.

I mean, listen, just as foreclosures were showing up on B-17, or in the real estate section, along comes this horrific headline out of Wall Street.

COOPER: Right.

CROWLEY: I mean, this is what they wanted. They believe, of course, that the economy is one of their strengths and that they can paint John McCain as George Bush.

That’s not change we can believe in.

Nice to see the truth coming out. You won’t hear about it on the OBAMA loving MSM.

The only thing the left has ever campaigned on is bad news, real or imagined, and their socialist Utopian fixes.

Of course, this is what Obama wanted. His campaign runs on doom and gloom. It’s the only way he can look good

LOL… BTW, I love the image you used Rob

It’s about time that even the “lefty” media is starting to show Obama for the piece of shit that he really is!!

It is the answer to their prayers, unless McCain is proactive and produces an extensive economic plan for the future that the average voter can easily understand!

Obama didn’t create the economic crisis (John McCain’s term) we are in.  Republicans have held the Presidency for the last 8 years and Congress for 12 of the last 14.

Lestat on September 16, 2008 at 12:42 pm

When the democrats took control of congress 2 years ago at the leadership of Pelosi and Reid, that’s when everything started going down the toilet.

A citizen.
What did they do? How can such an ineffectual 2 years lead to this? ‘Splain it to me?

BTW, it has to be Obama’s fault since anything that goes wrong is the fault of a leftist. That’s the logic that gets applied to any situation around here. Frankly, its bullshit.

The economic mess we’re in is bi-partisan.  If Republicans had governed like conservatives while they were in Congress we wouldn’t have these economic problems, and they’d still be in power.

Rob on September 16, 2008 at 12:52 pm

Hey Sparkie…it’s not what they did, it’s what they didn’t do. They said they would lower gas prices, they didn’t, and then in an attempt to ease it with the ethanol nonsense, they created $.00 corn from $2.00 corn which then trickled down into the whole economy mess.

Yet the problems occured during the Democrats two years…AMAZING!

Nice smear, but it sticks about as much as McCain’s team hoping for a terrorist strike because he gets better votes on that issue.

Instead of finding things to attack each other over, why don’t we find areas where we can agree, and find compromise long enough to take a step back and enjoy the recognition of our similarities?

Then, we can take steps forward in a constructive way, together, to tackle the issues where we really do disagree.

Which would then explain your presence here?

How about you just admit that we’re right, you hate that we’re right, so feel obliged to try and distort and distract from everything we write?

You start by saying the mess is bipartisan. Then you blame the Repubs for not governing like cons. Can’t have it both ways Mister.

Why wouldn’t Obama want to capitalize on Bush’s incompetence? It’d be foolish not to.

If Republicans had governed like conservatives while they were in Congress we wouldn’t have these economic problems, and they’d still be in power.—Rob the Clueless

Well, if you look at the record, economically, Bush acted like, and managed to screw up just as well as, Reagan. Both had a major financial crash on their watch, and both significantly overspent taxpayer money.

“Keynes had located the fundamental defect of the free market system in its incapacity to distinguish between `speculation’ and `enterprise.’ Hence, it had a tendency to be dominated by speculators, interested not in the long-term yield on assets but only in the short-term appreciation in asset values. Their whims and caprices, causing sharp swings in asset prices, determined the magnitude of productive investment and, therefore, the level of aggregate demand, employment and output in the economy. The real lives of millions of people were determined by the whims of ‘a bunch of speculators’ under the free market system.”—Prabhat Patnaik

Angry Vertebrate on September 16, 2008 at 04:11 pm

So your premise, Rob, is that Obama is praying for an economic downturn so he can be elected president and you expect me to not only say your right, but not laugh in the process?

This is the exact reason why I have never taken you seriously.

Not quite. Reagan had a crash on his hands and did nothing. The problem was over in months. Bush had a crash on his hands, and responded. A year later we’re still dealing with it.

Problem is, it wa Bush and Congress’s intervention that caused it. DAMN.

Kenny on September 16, 2008 at 10:55 pm

Kenny. IMHO I believe you are mistaken. The Savings and Loan collapse happened during the Reagan presidency and Reagan contrary to your assertion did have his hands on it. A bailout using taxpayer money ensued plus this little gem: “The Garn-St. Germain Depository Institutions Act of 1982 (Pub.L. 97-320, H.R. 6267, enacted 1982-10-15) is an Act of Congress, that deregulated the Savings and Loan industry. This Act turned out to be one of many contributing factors that led to the Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s.[1]

The bill, whose full title was “An Act to revitalize the housing industry by strengthening the financial stability of home mortgage lending institutions and ensuring the availability of home mortgage loans,” was a Reagan Administration initiative.”

Isn’t it amazing how the policies of cons/neocons and repubs somehow screw up our economy?

ellinas on September 17, 2008 at 08:26 am

Pure bullshit, Rob.

Please look at the Dow over the last five years.  More if you want to see how it had climbed during GW’s first term.  It has, even most recently in October 02.

it then went well over 11,000 onto 13,000.  Now we are here.  It is election and the Dems want to blame the Rebs.  The Dems are a major factor in this, not the Bush years.  Now we have a JR. Senator who is naming himself “the one”.  He said that way before the debate folks.  That name he gave himself almost sounds like something out of the Omen.  WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Anywho,  This ONE has no real plan.  I asked plenty of people to ask me what Obama’s plan is and since they can’t talk in circles as good as he can, they couldn’t answer.  Can You???  And I don’t mean in circles.

Please folks don’t fall for this bogus crap.  I call many people who are for Obama the American Idol crowd.  Why?  Because they are voting for him and they don’t have any substantive answer why.

Good Day To All.
