Why an X? Problems do happen but I have never seen an X appear so bold on screen as well as be placed directly over the VP’s face.

Is it in the center of the screen? I wonder if the x was used before filming to center the frame or the lens or something like that. It was live, so it couldn’t have been a post-production issue.
