CNN Marks Cheney With An “X”
Drudge Report - At 11:04:45 AM ET Monday CNN was airing Vice President Dick Cheney's speech live from the American Enterprise Institute in Washington -- when a large black 'X' repeatedly flashed over the vice president's face!
The 'X' over Cheney's face appeared each time less than a second, creating an odd subliminal effect.
As this DRUDGE REPORT screen capture reveals, while one 'X' flashed over Cheney's face CNN ran a headline at the bottom of its screen: "CHENEY: I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS WRONG TO CRITICIZE."
One top White House source expressed concern about what was aired over CNN.
"Is someone in Atlanta trying to tell us something?"
You wouldn't think something like this would be on purpose, but its hard to see where it could be nothing more than a simple broadcast error. I mean...why an "x"?
But then, I'm no broadcasting expert.
Update:
Evan Coyne Maloney:
Apparently, either a video glitch or not-glitch resulted in a few flashes of an "X" over Vice President Cheney's face while he was delivering a speech. A number of conservative bloggers are criticizing CNN under the assumption that the glitch (or not-glitch) was both deliberate and an example of political bias.
Sorry guys, I don't see it. I recognize the possibility, but I also recognize a much larger number of possibilities for actual glitches in video production. True, I don't work in live video, but I've seen software bugs and unintuitive behavior cause bizarre flashes where one video track has been accidentally merged onto another. It looks to me like something similar happened with CNN.
That's about where I'm at.
