CNN Interviews Trooper At Center Of Palin’s “Troopergate” Controversy

A good interview from CNN which you would hope would put most of this controversy away:

Note that he concedes to tasering his son (with the caveat that he electrocuted him with a test set up instead of an actual field taser) and to shooting a moose illegally (with the lame excuse that, despite being a wildlife officer, he didn’t know that shooting the moose was illegal). The segment also states that a state investigation into Wooten concluded that he’d driven his patrol car while drinking alcohol.
Given all of that, the only shocking part of this controversy is that Wooten is still employed by the Alaska State Troopers. Not that Sarah Palin tried to get him fired, which frankly would have been a just outcome for this mess.
If I were a taxpayer in Alaska I certainly wouldn’t take kindly to the idea that a liability like Wooten was still wearing a badge.

It’s interesting to see the liberal take on this. Things I’ve heard:

    1. Public servants have a property right to their jobs.

    2. The decision of the state police disciplinary board should have been the final one. The Governor has no role in saying “hey wait a minute” regarding them.

At least, of course, if it’s a Republican who wants to step in, I guess. Somehow abuse of authority by police officers doesn’t seem to be tolerated when it’s liberals who are at the business end of the taser.

And Anna makes a good point–four divorces by age 35? Something is up, and exactly why any sane person would object to pressure to get him fired is beyond me. It’s not like this is the guy you want to trust in a black & white with a Glock.

What is this the “Whining Blog”??

Is that a wedding ring still on the guy’s finger?!

Frankly, though, kudos to him for not jumping on the bandwagon of pillaring Palin. This puts him someplace above the media in a ranking of scumbuckets………

This guy admits to committing criminal acts that would land anyone else in jail, and he is still a cop?

Ed Schultz the Blow Hard thinks this story is going to do damage to the Palin side of the ticket and is actually going to Alaska to parade around. I think this story is a lot to do about nothing. I don’t want cops like this on the street.

When this was posted before, I mentioned that Wooten is an alcoholic and abusive thug cop who was beating Palin’s sister and abused his 10 year old son with a taser (electrocution) device. Personally, Palin did what any sister here would have done …she tried to get him fired and keep people (not just family) out of harms way.
So Palin is running for VP, does that all of a sudden make the Wooten asshole an innocent saint? I think not.
He needs to be stripped of his authoritarian position. If not, at least on leave until a thorough investigation into his behavior is completed.
Wooten is just 35 and he has been divorced four times already. That, along with the other accusations should give people a clue to his character and worthiness to be holding on to his career.

Personally I would hope that my governor would try to get a state trooper fired for that kind of behavior, brother-in-law or not. But, that’s just the way I roll!
