CNN Goes Into Kerry Defense Mode

What the hell?

Kerry sticks his foot in his mouth, and then responds to criticism of his comments by calling his critics “right-wing nut jobs” and he gets set up as the victim in all of this by the media?
Unbelievable.

Kerry's joke was pretty stupid, but it was also apparently misread from his speech.

The speech was written for him to say:

"I can't overstress the importance of a great education. Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq."

The video of Kerry's response, at:
    http://www.emailthis.clickability.com/et/emailThi…

…may start to make the attacks against him look pretty silly, though.

I think there's a real risk of this relative non-issue backfiring on the Repubicans, making them look petty and like they're overreacting for political gain, in the same way that Republicans who called for Clinton's impeachment rather than censure actually helped boost his poll ratings.

The more they push this and avoid the actual campaign issues, the more they are opening themselves up for some pretty painful criticism that otherwise would have no reason to be given such significant attention… and, as you said, the media will be giving Kerry and his supporters equal time on this issue, so the critiques may start to stick.

Kerry says he was "criticizing President Bush" …all those troops were just caught in Kerry's "friendly fire", I guess!

  • http://www.valleydeals.com/cgi-bin/board2/YaBB.pl Kevin

Kerry's excuse doesn't pass the sniff test.

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

…and people were afraid of Ronald Reagan's finger on the button!!!

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

Mark Kraft crafts the reality, The more they push this and avoid the actual campaign issues…

This happened yesterday and the Republicans have thus far only commented on it. It's hardly an example of the Republicans avoiding anything.

…and, as you said, the media will be giving Kerry and his supporters equal time on this issue…

That's not what Rob said. Equal time? We only wish it were that fair.

    Keep spinning Mark.

Sounds like he's talking about Bush to me.

My opinion is that this clearly sounds like he's talking about Bush.

Mark Kraft, I have listened to JFKerry's speech, read the transcript released from his staff, and listened to his "apology" today. I heard JFKerry and his usual contempt and derision for America's military. Period. Spin it however you want, JFKerry's voting record and long history of shitting on our military personnel speaks for its self.

Its no mystery that CNN would be defending Kerryl, no one will ever accuse them of being objective. In fact all they can talk about is the Republican losing the house.

In fact if you watch CNN you would almost think if the Repblican Party was the party of evil and that they just make this stuff up and how dare they throw mud at John Kerry a decorated three month tour combat veterans.

  • Stormy70

There is no putting this gaffe back in the box.

Kerry stepped in it, big time.

Sounds like he's talking about Bush to me.

One problem…that isn't what Kerry actually said, it's what his spinners said he wanted to say.

So, maybe the question is, What kind of moron can't even read his cue cards, tries to insult the Commander-in-Chief, and ends up insulting the entire US military?

    (Smacks forehead!) Oh, John Kerry!

  • robert108

Kerry has told yet another lie; in this volunteer army, no one joins without knowing that they might go to Iraq(Duh) and President Bush is not in direct charge of troop deployment, so to even insinuate that soldiers go to Iraq because of President Bush is a very big lie. I guess Kerry though nobody would notice his egregious mistakes.

  • Carol

Sounded to me like he was blowing wind to cover up what he really said. I heard what he really said and it didn't sound to me like he was talking about President Bush and his administration.

  • Sluggo

When I heard what Kerry said, my mouth dropped. I thought to myself, "That SOB just called me an idiot". I scored a 99 on my ASVAB, and he called me stupid?

And now he can't even apologize? What the hell is the man's problem?….wait…I know. He is just repeating the beliefs system that arises from the 'burning bush' of Progressive Liberal orthodoxy.

  • Jesse

Mark, you got a source on that Kerry speech text?

Once again kerry "wasn't smar"t and he took the "lazy" way out of his own predicament. If he can't even read his own speech, then he's a dufus.

And you goofball libs think he is presidential material.
    A fraud is a fraud…wake up.

    Good luck with that

  • http://richardondobook.com/ terrorbyinvasion

No wonder they can't win. The democrats keep marching in guys and gals like Kerry, Teddy, Hillary.
They need a stopper like Pilosi or Dean.

    Yeaaaah!

  • carrick

Mark Kraft, the only thing ringing hollow is the left's lame attempts at defending "Christmas in Cambodia" Kerry.

And I have little doubt that Kerry (and most of the others in the radical left) has a very low regard for our troops. They continually make that abundantly clear.

"Freudian slips" have been disrupted a long time ago… nowadays psychologists refer to this as "leaking," where what you genuinely believe accidentally slips through all the posing and posturing.

  • Friend of USA

    Last evening on ABC news I saw Kerry saying he was not talking about the troops but about president Bush;
so he intended to insult not only the president but the tens of million of Americans who voted for Bush.

Wow that is so much better than insulting the troops.

    Then he said that those who thought he intended to insult 140 thousand troops were crazy;
so not only is Bush stupid and
the tens of millions of people who voted for him are stupid,
but anyone who did not get that is crazy.

The more Kerry tries to explain what he did the more people he is insulting.

And Bush is supposed to be the dumber of the two?

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

Bush got better grades at Yale then Kerry did. (not by much and neither's grades were impressive).

As far as I'm concerned Kerry's made this 100 times worse. If he would have apologized for his "error" he would have got the benefit of the doubt.

Of course who doesn't think that Kerry a liberal Eastern elite thinks that?

  • Friend of USA

Oh yeah, another thing funny thing I heard yesterday on ABC news, they said republicans were using this
" kerry incident" to take attention away from more important things.

And what do they call what they did with the Foley story?

  • Barbula

Kerry is "intellectually lazy", and politically stupid to boot.

He doesn't have the wits to even make a lame joke about his better, and hasn't the political saavy to defuse the subsequent brouhaha with a litte self-deprecating humor.

He's a stooge, wrapped in a cocoon, oblivious and vile.

    Thanks for the help, John!

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

they said republicans were using this " kerry incident" to take attention away from more important things.

And what do they call what they did with the Foley story?

Great point. Prior to this fall I never heard of Foley. On the other hand they want to cover up what their last Presidential nominee said about our troops.

  • Mickey

According to the official census, only 25% of American adults have any secondary education beyond a high school degree. So I guess by John Kerry's standards 75% of Americans are only fit to serve in Iraq.

John Kerry is a failure in so many ways.

  • Bat One

    Mickey,

The irony is that any reasoned look at Kerry's career and his very modest list of accomplishments makes one question the value of any sort of educational endeavor. And while Boston College is admittedly NOT Harvard, a Jesuit school such as BC is still decidedly rigorous intellectually.

If Kerry has actually DONE anything in his life to demonstrate the value of a quality education it is certainly as much a secret today as the terms of his original discharge from the US Navy.

  • http://bezufache.wordpress.com/ Bezu Fache

The "JOKE" wasn't a joke and the "APOLOGY" wasn't an apology.

He clearly intended (in a non joking manner)to communicate that the troops are uneducated dead-enders.

    There was no "JOKE"
    That's bullshit.

He was bad-mouthing our soldiers like he always does.

Then to write that he apologizes about the fact that "PEOPLE MISINTERPRETED HIM" is also bullshit and is a non-apology.

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

The "JOKE" wasn't a joke and the "APOLOGY" wasn't an apology.

That's what makes John Kerry…John Kerry! (Kinda makes you wonder what kind of Party would have him as their standard bearer!)
