CNN Chief Says Fox Coverage Is “Meaningless Nonsense”

Drudge Report - CNN President Jonathan Klein implies ratings news leader FOXNEWS is mired in coverage of "meaningless nonsense," claiming: "Fourteen Americans dead, and they have Natalee Holloway on," Klein says. "And they're supposedly America's news channel."

"It's easy and it's brainless," Klein charges in a telephone interview set for publication at the NEW YORK TIMES, explaining why cable news outlets are gravitating to the Aruba story. "They're looking for an ongoing drama" along the lines of the NBC crime show "Law & Order," he said, adding, "Except 'Law & Order' doesn't do the same plot every night."

"There are an awful lot of things you can cover if you don't have people tied up with this meaningless nonsense," Klein says.

Dude's got a point. Fox has gone nuts with the Holloway thing. Really, there's only so much analysis one can take on a story like that. I know this is a slow time of the year news-wise, but there is a war going on.

But hey, who am I to criticize? Fox News is, at the end of the day, a business. And a damn successful one at that, being the network news ratings leader and all. If they can fill those ad slots with all-Holloway all-the-time then so be it. If viewers don't like it they'll "vote with their feet," as the saying goes, and Fox will get the message.

A buddy of mine, just got through saying this EXACT thing.  Fox News - All missing people all the time.

It’s driven my friend away from the channel.  (I don’t watch TV much, and it’ not FOX News when I do watch TV.)

Yeah, I was tired of the Holloway thing a while ago, but someone must be interested.  You can’t argue with those ratings.

I don’t watch much television either, Carrick.  I don’t have cable, just the broadcast channels.  Like you, we mostly just rent DVD’s.  I do watch the local news occassoinally on one of the broadcast channels, but that’s pretty much it.

I’ve basically noticed the Fox/Holloway thing during my lunch hour when I’m usually near a TV.  That and coverage on other blogs.

Not that it’s worth anything, but I quit watching CNN, Fox and MSNBC about two years ago.  I don’t even have cable any more (we just rent DVDs).  In any case, CNN is doing a good job as the dark pot calling the kettle black.

There are very few people in the journalistic profession that I have any respect for, and few of them work for the 24-hour news channels.

Yeah, but they would also be the “news ratings leader” if they started airing reruns of ‘Seinfeld’ during the day. I mean, at the end of the day, ‘Seinfeld’ is as important and “newsworthy” as any one of those missing pretty women, right?

Then again, all news networks do this. A few nights ago Larry King devoted an entire hour to an interview with Pamela Anderson.

Just a word about CNN. CNN is upset because it(like Hollywood) is out of touch with the mainstream. While FOX airs Holloway ad nauseum CNN gives us eery little bit of dirt on those evil republicans. Both services are a complete joke. There is no real news service left, there are only agendas and manipulation. Wake Up America!
