CNN Apologizes To China, Gets The Middle Finger Back

The only thing worse than going groveling to Chinese socialists for an offense that amounts to nothing more than free speech exercised by a western journalist is to get your groveling spurned by said socialists.

BEIJING — China on Thursday snubbed an apology from CNN over remarks by one of its commentators as a wave of verbal assaults on foreign media raised concerns over coverage at this summer’s Beijing Olympics.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu rejected CNN’s explanation that commentator Jack Cafferty was referring to China’s leaders — not the Chinese people — when he described them as “goons and thugs.” CNN said it apologized to anyone who thought otherwise.

But Jiang said at a regularly scheduled news conference that the CNN statement lacked sincerity and instead “turned its attack on the Chinese government to try to sow division between the Chinese government and the people.”

China’s response isn’t surprising, but it’s hard to have a lot of respect for the folks at CNN for apologizing in the first place.

If CNN did not apologize there would be consequences.
They have responsibilities to their shareholders.

Why, the Chinese might even have closed their bureau in the nation’s capital…

Whoops!  My bad!  Wrong human rights abusing dictatorship.  Where is Eason Jordan when we need this stuff explained?

You’re assuming that standing up to socialists is bad for ratings.  I can’t imagine a better ratings-draw than a full-scale war with a socialist regime.

The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is… legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay … If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system.

Rob: You don’t get it; Woof was repeating the leftie talking points about China “owning our debt”; it’s just more nonsense from the economic know-nothings.

BTW, Rush reported it this morning as China accusing CNN of “information terrorism”.  I love it when the lefties go at each other!

CNN wants a share of the China market.
China just explained the rules.

China just explained the rules.

As I noted above, CNN is accustomed to being told what the rules are, and what they will, and will not report.

Part of the problem with CNN’s “apology” is that China considers their gov’t and people to be one and the same.  They really buy into socialism in that respect.  The government is “the people’s” government - insult one and you insult both.

So in that regard, CNN really did call a billion people “goons & thugs”.

If you need more explanation, watch the movie “Volunteers” with Tom Hanks.
