Clueless in California- Meet Noreen Evans!

There’s a joke about a woman who says she can’t be overdrawn on her bank account because she still has checks! In California, we elect our jokes to the legislature! (with apologies to the state of Minnesota!)
Case in point is Santa Rosa Democrat Noreen Evans. Noreen is a state assemblywoman (asssemblyperson?) who made the news recently with the following statement:

Well, there is this mantra out there - “live within our means” – and while that sounds really nice . . . and it sounds really responsible, it’s meaningless. Our means are completely within our control . . . We have just given away huge corporate subsidies in February; we have given away other tax reductions over many, many years; we’ve created tax loopholes; in good times, we routinely give away taxes, and then in lean times we never replace those tax deductions or close those loopholes. . . . So “live within our means” doesn’t mean anything. The fact is, we have a state with a population that have [sic] needs that we have a moral obligation to provide.

Did you get that? “Live within our means” doesn’t mean anything, it’s “meaningless”!
Keep in mind that the state of California is broke and handing out IOUs in lieu of cash these days! Not only does living within your means not mean anything, but according to this shining example of modern liberalism, we have a moral obligation to spend more than we take in!
What about a moral obligation to good stewardship of public funds? Could it be that in taking care of the needs of the population, one needs to be careful about other discretionary use of tax dollars in order to insure that there will be enough to take care of those needs?
How about the needs of people to have jobs and to keep enough of their own money that they do not become wards of the state? If you keep raising taxes on business, forcing employers out of the state, then there are fewer taxpayers to pay taxes. And more unemployed people.
The idea that every state expenditure is necessary, or that every good idea has to be implemented by the state is not conducive to fiscal responsibility. The idea that the taxpayer is “morally obligated” to fund every want that the state legislature perceives as “need” is unrealistic.
That’s why there’s a budget, Ms. Evans. That’s why the state constitution requires that the budget be balanced every year. You probably took an oath to uphold that constitution when you assumed office. If you didn’t then you should have!
Responsible adults don’t regularly spend more than they make. On those occasions when they do, they’d better have a pretty darn good reason for it. Not just a warm fuzzy feeling about spending other people’s money!
I heard Ms. Evans on the radio, but thanks to real clear politics for a transcript of her remarks!

Illegals are not the totality of the problem. When your expenditures exceed your income, you have to look at things to cut, like political patronage jobs: six figure incomes to meet a few times a year to sit on an “advisory board” should be eliminated!

If California needs advisors, ask them to serve pro bono publico or for a nominal $1.00/year.

That’s just one example of what responsible leaders would do in time of financial crisis. If I were on the payroll of the people, I guaran-damn-tee I could find lots of others!

I’m having a difficult time deciding which is Ms. Noreen Evans’ worst characteristic, her astounding stupidity or her godawful arrogance.

Its a remarkable achievement when one idiot woman legislator, a Democrat of course, can make real conservatives take pity on Gov. Arnold Schwartzenegger.

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

Arnold has run the state of California just as bad as Greyout Davis.

I had hoped that Arnold would use his bully pulpit to counteract much of the Democrat control of the legislature. I’ve been out of the state for the last three years and have little personal experience there. It is futile to speculate whether or not they would have been worse under Davis.
One thing in Arnold’s favor though, whatever his ability as governor is: I’ve never heard anyone accuse him of the “play for pay” antics of his predecessor!

If ICE had been doing their job since 1986 the problem wouldn’t be out of control now.

The other thing in addition to what Robert said is for government employees to report illegal aliens whenever they run into them.

Same thing with emergency rooms, patch ‘em up and call the authorities.

  • TomTom

Its all petty bullshit. Illegal mexicans are the root cause of the Calif bankrupcy. $ 17 billion a year for 10 million Illegals?..170 billion est in last 10 years? Deport the illegal mexicans…no more deficit!

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

Even if you closed all the “tax loopholes” and soaked the taxpayer for every dime you could, then that would become the new “means” you have to live within!
This gal is simply unclear on the concept!

ICE doesn’t have enough people to deport all of them and California is full of sancuary cities. But I agree send the illegal invaders home enmasse.

The more you listen the more convinced you become, liberals do not have rational, reasoning brains. I think they are born that way, brainless.

A bit of a straw man. It has already been demonstrated that when the welfare is cut off, when hiring is prevented, and when landlords require legal ID to rent, they tend to self-deport. The illusion is that they’re here to work, but when the goodies are no longer available, they leave. The vast majority of them are simply parasites.

I am telling you if call your local ICE office in LA to report a Illegal Alien they will not come down and pick him up unless he is a criminal Alien and or into Kiddy Porn. I do agree that if the economy gets worse they will deport themselves because they can’t leach off society anymore.

Then they elect morons like Obama, Princess Nancy, Prince Harry, and Al Frankin.

Yeah ok! If ICE was doing their job. Key sentence there. If the Liberals in California were obstructing the Federal Government from doing their job, if the Liberal US Congress wasn’t telling ICE to only go after the Criminals and leave the other illegals alone… This happened last winter.

The problem is that we need to send all of them home. Over stay a visa your sent home, no immigration court. If they come to the hospitial or are picked up for driving drunk witout a liscense, they need to be picked up and immediately deported into the middle of Mexico on a repatriation flight, then Mexico should be sent a bill for services rendered. But the left wants to give them citizenship.

I already know this, being a CA resident. I clearly pointed out other ways to get them to self-deport, without depending on ICE.

  • robert108

I guess I didn’t ‘splain what I said clearly enough. Cutting off the welfare to the invaders and the education funding for their kids doesn’t depend on ICE, it’s up to the State legislature to do that. Passing laws requiring valid ID to rent, along with enforcing the limits on the number of people allowed in an apartment is also a State or even local matter.
Requiring valid ID and fluency in English is also a State or local matter. My whole point was that we don’t have to depend on ICE to get rid of the invaders.

  • robert108

Back to Noreen Evans, she is a clear example that lefties are economically ignorant, and when some of our own leftie morons start squealing about conservative economic policies “ruining everything”, they display her brand of foolishness. “Living within your means” is the essence of conservative economics.

  • robert108

Proof: You probably know that the entire concept of “tax loopholes” is based on the belief that the govt owns all of our money, and that we are lucky if we get to keep any of it, right?

I gotcha! I wonder if they could use the threat of pulling federal funds from the State of California until they enforce the laws on the books in California? Once the State of California colaspes from all of the debt it will be interesting to see if social services to ILLEGAL ALIENS will stop. I don’t see the citizens of the USA being all that happy if they have to give the state of California a bail out. My tax dolars should not be used to pay for some other states missmanagement. I am surprised the Jerkinator hasn’t been recalled yet? Arnold has run the state of California just as bad as Greyout Davis.

  • robert108

Arnold has run the state of California just as bad as Greyout Davis.

That’s literally an untrue statement, but for all of Arnold’s pandering to the CA Dems, the collapse of CA’s economy is solely due to their wasteful social spending. The governor in CA has very little power compared to the State legislature, which has been solidly Dem for decades.
Arnold hasn’t given us any “rolling blackouts”, has he?

  • Neiman

Well 108, I live in California and even I must admit Schwartzenkennedy hasn’t been much better. He has pandered to the Democrats on almost every issue. I say the shadow between Davis and Arnie is very thin!

Yes, it is the wild eyed Marxist-Homosexual Legislature that has brought us to this point, but Arnie hasn’t fought them very hard on most issues.

I guess that means he has higher standards than most of his fellow left wing politicans.

Also, If anything the Jerkinator has looked weak during his time as govenor. I Dunno if anything he has exposed him self for being a liberal republican that has not trimmed the waste down like he said he would.

  • robert108

How quickly we forget! Right after he was elected, Arnie campaigned tirelessly for conservative reform in CA, and was just whacked by the Dem Legislature. Again, in CA, the Legislature has almost all the power, and the governor is mostly a figurehead. He can either go along with the legislature, like Davis did, or he can resist and be marginalized, like Arnie has been. He has been made into a whipping boy by the Dem legislature so they can attack fiscal conservatism, but no reform is possible without reforming the legislature. Even the votes of the citizens don’t matter much, as they are trying to overturn the vote on homo marriage for the second time, and are figuring out ways to get around the votes against raising taxes.
I’m not saying Arnie is a strong conservative, but what is going on in CA is certainly not his fault.

There are 20-to 30 million illegals in America. No one is willing to count them. I have two friends who are sheriff’s in Texas Counties..both say it is closer to 30 million. And nearly all of them are living on some knid of welfare. 79% of the newborns in LA county are illegals. Calif spends enough each year ($ 17 to 20 Billion) on illegals to balance their budget. The Liberals have GIVEN AWAY Calif to illegals. And now they are bitching…let em bitch..they deserve to be shaking, burning, or sliding into the abyss they created.

But I thought that Arnold was going to save the state? That it was all Grey Davis’ fault. You got your election redo, a mulligan. You shitstains lose and want a do-over like some banana republic.

You don’t even believe in our system.

“I had hoped that Arnold would use his bully pulpit to counteract much of the Democrat control of the legislature.”

But if Arnie would have stood up and opposed the left wingers, his friends in Hollywood might not have liked him. When Arnie flies home from Sacremento, he might be lonely if his Hollywood buddies quite speaking to him.

While the legislature may have most of the power, how often did the girlyman governor pick up his veto pen? Or was the veto pen just to heavy for little Arnie?
