Clinton Vs. Chris Wallace

For those of you who haven’t yet seen the video of Bill Clinton getting all hot and bothered with Chris Matthews on Fox News Sunday here’s a nice summary video of the occasion:

My reaction: The national security/terrorism issue has got Democrats scared if it can knock Clinton this far off his game.  Honestly, watching this slick politician resort to the Fox News conspiracy theories espoused by the lunatic fringe of his party’s base in reaction to a fair question about his anti-terror efforts indicates, to me at least, just how bankrupt the left is when it comes to the war on terror and national security issues in general.

These people are running scared, and it’s because the sum total of their policies for the war on terror amount to “We would have stayed in Afghanistan and caught bin Laden.”  As though putting all our eggs in one basket to catch a man who is just one leader in an Islamic fascist movement that encompasses dozens of sects spread out across the globe were sound policy in the face of the terrorist threat.

Update: Byron York:

...the bottom line is that Bill Clinton, the commander-in-chief, could not find the will to order the military into action against al Qaeda, and Bill Clinton, the head of the executive branch, could not find the will to order the CIA and FBI to act. No matter what the former president says on Fox, or anywhere else, that is his legacy in the war on terror.

Read the whole thing.

Update: Interesting…

I question whether or not Clinton’s “rage” at Chris Wallace wasn’t coldly calculated, and part of the Democratic midterm election playbook.

Fox News reports closer to the middle than any other major news organization. It is necessary for Democrats to try to cast Fox as far right wing in order to minimize their influence on the electorate. They also need to keep their radical left base happy.

Thus, a manufactured Clinton tantrum serves two purposes. He can try to portray Wallace as a biased journalist, while throwing red meat to the far left loons without explicitly acknowledging them.

Anyone who doubts that Clinton is capable of such a deception should remember his finger-wagging performance when he lied to America about his relationship with Monica Lewinski.

Sounds plausible to me.

The funny thing is, the Dem/leftie position on Afghanistan makes no sense for them.  The more important they make OBL, the worse Clinton looks for not getting him when he could.  They are truly deranged, just like Clinton is on this video.  He used the same technique on this video that he used on the Monica telecast.  He was lying then, and he is lying now.

Do you hear that sound?

It’s the sound of a ‘legacy’ crashing and burning.

Clinton is to Osama as Chamberlain was to Hitler, and he is watching it unfold right before his eyes.

Now that is justice, my friends.

Yeah, right, Clinton said to Fox News what millions of
Americans have been saying.  He, as most of you like to say, “bitch slapped” Fox news all over the place.  I, for one, enjoyed every minute of it.

I don’t believe for one minute that Clinton is concerned about his legacy.  His ratings now and even during impeachment are higher than Bush’s.

Perhaps you all should just go back and take a long look at what the Repugs were howling about back in the nineties.  “Wag the dog”  seemed to be the meme of the repubs back when Clinton tried.  The Rs wanted the US out of Somalia right after the shooting down of the blackhawk.  All you have to do is google it and you will see what the Rs were saying back then.  The Rs were so blinded by their chance to get Clinton and Monica that they refused to do their real jobs.

So say what you will and boy will you, Clinton more than stood his ground with Fox this morning and set the record straight. He took the blame for what he did and should have done, but he didn’t take us to war in Iraq when we should have finished the job in Afghanistan.

Now, have at it boys!

If you think having a legacy is about high poll ratings, you are nearly as clueless as Clinton about what a legacy is.  At least Clinton however seems cognizant that irreperable damage is being done to him, unlike you Puzzle.

Heh, Clinton didn’t ‘bitch slap’ anyone here. There is a reason why this interview is being posted all over the right blogosphere, Puzzle, and it ain’t because it makes Clinton look good. Wallace was obviously enjoying watching Clinton twist in the wind here.

Clinton’s attempts to rewrite history are just ridiculous. The idea that the neocons hated Clinton because Clinton ‘obsessed’ too much about Osama bin Laden has got to be the weakest attempt at revisionism yet attempted by a Democrat this year.

Heh, oh yeah and the Republicans demanding that he pull out of Somalia - as if Clinton knew it was the wrong thing to do, but he was bullied by those nefarious neocons into pulling out anyway!

This guy is just pathetic, and an embarassment to himself. I hope he keeps it up though, right through November. He is the poster child for Democratic ineffectiveness on national security.

P: As in Iraq, “the job” won’t be finished in Afghanistan for a long time, and is ultimately up to the Iraqis and Afghanis, respectively.  George Bush has seen that they are presented with the opportunity to build a free, non-terrorist society; it is up to them to follow through.  Clinton never did anything resembling this.
If you want to maintain that the only war on terror is in Afghanistan, fine; then Clinton’s failure to get OBL when he could(multiple times) looks far worse.  Be my guest!

I gotta say, Clinton seemed to set the tempo of the interview.  Clinton tried to do what I have wished Conservatives would do to the MSM every day for as long as I can remember.  While Clinton’s passion bode well for him, the facts will not.  Nevertheless, this will energize the democrat’s base.

Wallace, on the other hand, appeared caught off guard—a response that made Clinton’s defensive posture appear legitimate.  All in all the democrats finally have something to cheer about.  Enjoy yourselves; the elections will be here soon.

Ken,

The video clip is also being posted on left-leaning sites as well. Despite what you think, lots of people out there who haven’t sold their souls to the GOP actually think that Clinton showed a great deal of fight and backbone in that interview and came off better from it. Naturally, people who have a pathological hatred for him will not like it, but that’s obvious.

Pathological hatred?  You’ve got to be kidding.  We republicans, for the most part are focused on our common enemy—terrorists.  Meanwhile, liberal pathological hatred of Bush prevents you from supporting our nation’s efforts against our common enemy, and that in a time of war!

Liberal pathological hatred is only equalled by Clinton’s pathological lies in this interview.

There he goes pointing his finger at someone while he lies.
Remember when he pointed at the TV camera and said “I did not have sexual relations with that woman!!!”

Yep, Bill Clinton’s still got it, he destroyed Chris Wallace in the interview (http://thinkprogress.org/clinton-interview). Poor Republicans, sounds like they are jealous since one of the world’s greatest politicians is a Democrat. World’s greatest? He is one of the sleaziest, most dishonest, most cunning, but also charismatic, politicians alive. That’s why shit doesn’t stick to him. He killed more Iraqis than either Bush but few give a damn.

Bush on the other hand, he only inspires the kids with intellectual disabilities as he gives them hope that they too can: become president, start some wars, drink and drive, commit war crimes, lie about WMD’s, give tax-cuts to the wealthy, destroy the environment,...

Yay representative democracy! From a list, you get to choose any ass-hole you like.

1. I never said I was liberal.

2. We are not in a time of war; Congress hasn’t issued a formal declaration of war since WWII.Also by Bush’s own words, the terrorists are not members of a uniformed army, which is why they aren’t afforded Geneva Convention status as prisoners of war.

That doesn’t mean we are not at war.  Congress should have used the word war, but that doesn’t change the facts.

Well, in a sense, all military combat could be considered war. In that sense, then indeed the U.S. is at war, what with the combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

If such is the case, then the US was at war several times during the Clinton presidency, including the aforementioned War in Somalia. Thus, by HG’s standards, all of the prople criticizing Clinton during his presidency were just as much hindering the war effort as those who criticize Bush.

Hey Jax

I guess if someone questions what the definition of “IS” is before answering a simple and direct question ( uh..I don’t know ..let’s say..during a grand jury investigation) and then claims that his definition of “IS” is different than the one normally accepted; chances are, that person’s a liar!

Since there seems to be some question regarding the veracity of our former President in his now-infamous Chris Wallace interview on Fox, perhaps our current Secretary of State and former National Security Advisor, Condoleeza Rice could prove helpful.  From the NY Post,

“The notion somehow for eight months the Bush administration sat there and didn’t do that is just flatly false - and I think the 9/11 commission understood that,” Rice said during a wide-ranging meeting with Post editors and reporters.
“What we did in the eight months was at least as aggressive as what the Clinton administration did in the preceding years,” Rice added.

She also said Clinton’s claims that Richard Clarke - the White House anti-terror guru hyped by Clinton as the country’s “best guy” - had been demoted by Bush were bogus.

“Richard Clarke was the counterterrorism czar when 9/11 happened. And he left when he did not become deputy director of homeland security, some several months later,” she said

This is, of course, already a matter of public record, which apparently doesn’t much matter to Mr. Clinton.

As for Clinton’s angry claim to have left a comprehensive anti-terror plan in place for the incoming Bush administration, once again, his own anti-terror czar, Clarke, disagreed.

In fact, Clarke told the commission a very different story during hours of private testimony behind closed doors - one that jibed with a 2002 background briefing he gave to reporters.
Back then, he said: “There was no plan on al Qaeda that was passed from the Clinton administration to the Bush administration. . . . [a] plan, strategy - there was no, nothing new.”

Indeed, Clarke said, the Bush team in 2001 “changed the [Clinton] strategy from one of rollback [of] al Qaeda over five years to a new strategy that called for the rapid elimination of al Qaeda. That is in fact the timeline.”
In fact, a 1999 Clarke after-action memo - the one top Clinton aide Sandy Berger later stole from the National Archives - identified national-security weaknesses so “glaring” that only sheer “luck” prevented a cataclysmic attack back then.
And, as Clarke told the 9/11 Commission publicly, there was nothing the Bush administration could have done that would have prevented the attacks.

The Post concludes with a sad reminder of just who we’re talking about here,

But was Clinton telling the truth? (Remember the last time he wagged his finger in public?)

Every single word out of that son of a bitch’s mouth is a lie.

An air force colonel by the name of Buzz (Robert) Patterson was the defense department’s military attaché to the White House between 1996 and 1998.
In his book,

Dereliction of Duty

Buzz stated undeniable facts about Clinton’s inability or refusal to capture or kill OBL.

The facts are incontrovertible and are overwhelmingly substantiated by several members of Clinton’s own administration; like Dick Morris and Richard Clarke.

(Read Clarke’s book here)

Additionally, numerous members of the defense/military community-also confirmed the details.

Clinton had no less than 8 opportunities to kill or capture OBL but “he could never bring himself to pull the trigger.”

He had countless military chances to defend the USA from these terrorists but chose not to. perhaps Monica was still too much on his mind.

When his failure to use his military options became public knowledge, the S.O.B. started pretending that the OBL issue was a confounding legal matter.

This also is bogus bullshit. His own justice department had delivered to him, a year before, a 159 page indictment of OBL. So he had every justification (military and legal) to capture or kill OBL and he didn’t do it.

He’s an F—-ing liar; and arrogant condescending one at that.

Also, it’s interesting to note his characterization of the Mogadishu affair; that the “neo-cons wanted me to immediately pull-out immediately”. This is also a blatant (easily verifiable) lie as well.

Look up the press clippings; the guy who gave Clinton the strongest advice about an immediate pull-out from Somalia was—-cut and run John Murtha.

It was and is this weak-knee’d (liberal) approach toward governance that got our special forces soldiers kill and their bodies dragged through the filthy and muddy streets of that ass-backward hellhole.

It’s time for this shit to stop!!
