Cindy McCain - Drift Racer

There’s a story by that wire service no one quotes any more, about Cindy McCain attending an Indy car race at the Nashville Superspeedway. She took a lap with Johnny Rutherford in the pace car, talked with 2004 Indy 500 winner Buddy Rice, and checked out Danica Patrick’s car, among other things. She sounds like a lady who knows her way around a garage!

Then, almost at the end of the article, the wire service writer showed her ignorance of racing with this gem: (I have to quote it just so I can mock it!)

McCain, a racing fan who does something called drift racing with her son, planned to watch the 266-mile race from a luxury suite.

Something called drift racing?? Way to go, AP! Any of your people ever hear of “Google”? Research?? Or does she just figure her audience isn’t too bright, so she talks down to them?

Oh, and way to go, Cindy! Maybe you could challenge Michelle to a little street race? Heh.

I think you’re overshooting your target here.

“Something called drift racing” is a relatively recent phenomenon. There was nothing insulting by the way it was phrased.

I’m with likwid, I don’t see an insult if she is into drifting with her son.  It seems like a completely separate though.  In other words she likes different forms of racing and is going to watch the race.  AND to prove she likes racing they point out that she actually participates in one type, drifting.

That’s the way it read to me.

Oh, and if she is into drifting I admire her even more then I did!

She was probably just jagged up on Percocet and Vicodin when she said it. I wonder if John does her in the dirty spot when shes all passed out on drugs?

You’re here because you know something. What you know, you can’t explain. But you feel it. You felt it your entire life. That there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. Like a splinter in your mind—driving you mad.

Cindy McCain was in Michigan on Friday and did a live interview on WJR talk-radio. She is warm, gracious, smart and committed to great causes.

She makes Michelle Obama look like a spoiled, whiney cheerleader.

I didn’t think it was insulting, I thought it was ignorant. And if your job is reporting on a subject, or an individual and something comes up that you know nothing about, you do a little research!

Personally, I thought that was the most interesting part of the article! The reporter blew an excellent opportunity for a great story!

She was probably just jagged up on Percocet and Vicodin when she said it.

What’s YOUR excuse, Buzz-the-gnat-like-whine-of-a-minor-annoyance?

If that is his pic, he needs to learn how to hold a weapon.

Well, at least it captures his essence: His mouth is open and he has nothing to say!

I guess I don’t really see where Cindy McCain was talking down to anyone.  Is it because she likes drift racing, where the cars will take turn at high speed and skid the back tires?  Is it because she was watching the race from a skybox?  Maybe she should have gone down into the bleachers so the media could make her out to be a “redneck”?

I guess she’s dammned if she does, damned if she doesn’t!
