Chutzpa

Not news-worthy: Mom has 15-year-old daughter.

News-worth: Mom helps boyfriend rape 15-year-old daughter, admits this to cops.

Un-friggin’-believable: Mom shows up to court date with “#1 Mom” t-shirt on.

(February 9, 2007) — Her confession was all a lie, self-proclaimed “#1 Mom” Wendy W. Wilkins said Thursday when she was ordered to prison for helping her boyfriend rape her 15-year-old daughter.

Before Monroe County Court Judge Richard A. Keenan ordered Wilkins to prison for 1 1/3 to four years for third-degree rape, Wilkins said she falsely confessed and wasn’t around when Miguel A. Colon raped her daughter in their Rochester home.

“I don’t know what everyone is trying to pull, but it’s a lie,” said Wilkins, who wore a red T-shirt emblazoned with the words “#1 Mom” when she appeared in court for her arraignment last year.

Wow.

I agree this “mother” needs to be locked up (and assisted in not having any more children as well!).

But what the about the acknowledged boyfriend/rapist?  He gets one and a half to four years for raping a minor?  There is something very much not right with that!

This is not an isolated incident.  The percentage of incest in the average school district is about 40%.  This is why many of my students did not learn—could not concentrate.

very similar experience in Grand forks..in the rooming house where I stayed.  Mother liked to party with guys from GFAFB.. While Mom partied in her bedroom, Mom “allowed” more than a few Airmen to spend the night with her 15 year old daughter.  Her thin walled room adjoined mine.  It sounded very consensual except a youg girl can’t give consent.  Whatta role model.

My goodness Jack...I would have called the cops.

Rob- by todays standards, absolutely, intervention should have happened. But in the earlier millenium, I was like 19, usually doing homework or trying to sleep...only phone was in the landlady’s living room.  Her Mom, our landlady, sure encouraged it.  We thought the Mom was a drunken whore for a mother.  But it was happening.  It not a new thing.  Something just like it is probably happening tonight in hundreds of homes..little kids sharing a bedroom with Mom and the drunk guy she brought home from the bar.

I duuno if its 40% of all school kids but I’d guess its 40% of single parent situations and that would be 40% of 40%= 1 in 6 kids in unhealthy situations.  We should not be surprized at the fruit this tree bears.
