Christopher Hitchens Has A Great Idea

Stand Up For Denmark:
And there remains the question of Denmark: a small democracy, which resisted Hitler bravely and protected its Jews as well as itself. Denmark is a fellow member of NATO and a country that sends its soldiers to help in the defense and reconstruction of Iraq and Afghanistan. And what is its reward from Washington? Not a word of solidarity, but instead some creepy words of apology to those who have attacked its freedom, its trade, its citizens, and its embassies. For shame. Surely here is a case that can be taken up by those who worry that America is too casual and arrogant with its allies. I feel terrible that I have taken so long to get around to this, but I wonder if anyone might feel like joining me in gathering outside the Danish Embassy in Washington, in a quiet and composed manner, to affirm some elementary friendship. Those who like the idea might contact me at christopher.hitchens@yahoo.com, and those who live in other cities with Danish consulates might wish to initiate a stand for decency on their own account.
Via RealClearPolitics.

P.S. Was just thinking, would not a solemn, civil, respectful demonstration or vigil on behalf of Denmark be an excellent counterpoise to all the irrational nonsense being directed at Denmark and other western nations? Would it not be doubly excellent if a great many rational, thoughtful muslims joined in?

Ken,… Rational and thoughtful are two words that are very hard to think of when describing a "Muslim". I think you are very sweet to say that though. I will try.

Wow…

This has got to be a first - TCF actually agreeing with SA!!

However, I wonder if Mr. Hitchen’s equally concurs with the brave intent of those Danish journalists?

They were challenging the dissembling of those Muslims who regularly denigrate the religions of their perceived enemies, yet will not allow such attacks on the prophet Muhammad. Europeans were simply clarifying that such hypocrisy will not permitted in a civilized society.

A society that has obviously learned from the evils of such religious bigotry.

If I were in D.C. I would absolutely attend this vigil.

It also makes me think that we should set up a site similar to those "We’re Sorry" idiots who were apologizing to the world after we re-elected.  Something along the lines of "We stand with you, Denmark, even if our leaders aren’t exactly clear on that."

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

It was not Denmark, it was the New York Times, who pressed the blaspehmies. The creatures from Wallstreet urged the Danes to publish these horrendous "caricatures", everyone knows it! Forgive my typos because I am REALLY upset!! Alle these lies, all these insults, what have we done to dwerseve this ? Denmark is but a puppet on Wallstreet’s strings. All of the West shows they have no real values, they are all sarcastic and godless. That is no insult, that is a bitter and sad fact. You will see where your aggression will put you. Try to invade Iran and you will see what real Islam is about! Iraq’s struggle for freedom against your tyranny will be NOTHING agaist the uspurge in Iran!

Thank you, Abdul Hamid, for putting on display the paranoid, uninformed, bigoted and childish mindset that permeates much of the muslim world.

Sucks to be you, pal.

The caricature of Mohamad that is being used to incite riots was first published in an Eygptian paper, and subsequently was picked up by the Dane press several weeks later. That was in September, Abdul. We have been supporting our Danish brothers and sisters by buying their products, and my sister-in-law and her family were in Denmark during the Christmas Holiday.

Abdul Hamid,...What is the real Islam all about?

Real Islam is about - rape, murder, oppression, child molestation, thievery, imperialism, death, destruction, insanity, genocide, dictatorships, terrorism, torture, slavery, beastiality, beheadings, and stonings.

I think that about covers it.

Abdul Hamid,...Your words spoke volumes! It was loud and clear to me. You claim you don’t support violence and want us to believe you are so anti- violence. It is rather difficult to see ourselves as others see us! Perhaps You need to review what you have said to us and think about what you really believe? I would like nothing more than to restore peace! What would it take for you and your country to be at Peace with the USA? ... or do we "Evil" USA citizens all have to be dead?
